    HELLO -
I have a question about a DVD burning software program,
    specifically, 'BURNAWARE'.
I had downloaded this program a couple of weeks ago
and I have been happy with it. I was all set to recommend
it to a friend of mine but today when I typed in the
'BURNAWARE' name on my computer to do a search, I see that
the site is flagged with the ominous red warning that
    says 'Warning: Dangerous Downloads'.
It wasn't flagged as a bad site a couple of weeks ago.
This 'BURNAWARE' software is in fact even listed on
the MAJORGEEKS download page as recommended software.
What's up? Has something changed? Have these 'BURNAWARE'
guys been seduced by the dark side?

    Hi

Where did you type this to get a red flag message? was it Wot or McAfee Site Advisor? (if Site Advisor its way out of date normally (its entry for Burnaware is from March 2009!) and full of False Positives, WoT is better)

Not notice that Burnaware is a bad application and any nasty addons being installed with it and our version is latest possible version (unlike the one McAfee tested from 1yr ago, very poor)

Here is a multi malware scan from Jotti HERE on this file

Were you searching using Google or Yahoo or similar? Are you sure that you typed in Burnaware correctly? It's not unusual for people to create domain names that are similar to a famous and trusted one to try and catch people out. Hotmail is an example of this. Hotmail is safe but there is an untrustworthy website with a very similar name and if you mistype, you can end up there as I did one day.

Check your history if you think you might have mistyped and you will see what you actually typed.

Yes, I'm sure I typed the name correctly.
The red flags only seems to be on YAHOO.
    It's not flagged on GOOGLE.
It is a great little program and I don't want to stop using it or give it false bad mouth.
I haven't had any problems but I'm just leary now, of recommending it to others.
Maybe I'll try contacting YAHOO to get some specifics.
Thanks for the quick reply. Also, JOTTI seems to be a handy tool.
I'll add it to my malware arsenal, thanks to all for the tips.

I went back to Yahoo and I was able to get some additional info.
It looks like McAfee does there analysis.
I'm going to try to attach a copy of the report.
The gist of it is that there are some low level nuisance things tied into
the 'BURNAWARE FREE' version. I like the BURNAWARE program enough that I just went ahead and got the paid version (BURNAWARE HOME).

Here is the McAfee report that I got.
    I got the report on March10, 2010.
I don't know if it's the same report that HALO mentioned or not.

    Hi MartyB

Similar link to what I posted but McAfee Site Advisor as you have run and linked to in your Word DOc lists Burnaware as safe, TBH I think its a great app and never been a bad app so seems your Yahoo scanner is not so good or upto date very well.

Seems to be an issue these days in these sort of protection apps, they are not actually well kept upto date, even Mcafee's site advisor is mainly out of date, Previx is poor as hell, and list goes on, WOT is best of the bunch and downloadable HERE for IE and HERE for Firefox
