Hi, I just reinstalled Windows 7 x64 on my SSD and have retained all the data on my other hard drive, which contains the Users folder with all the data.

How do I go about restoring the directory junction that I had from C:\Users to D:\Users? I tried the command, but it says "Cannot create a file when that file already exists" in the command prompt.

I know it's something simple, but I'm just trying to hurry and get it done, so a quick answer would be great. :)

Alright... so I'm past making the directory junction. However, now, the directory junction for my primary user account has something awry... when I login to that account, it logs on and then immediately back off. So, I'm not sure what's going on.

All I do is use the Move tab in the Properties of each of the 'special' folders to point to the location of the corresponding data on the existing drive.

I think all the locations are stored here: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders

You may find your answer otherwise with a search string like: windows 7 special folders site:technet.microsoft.com

I used to do that, but directory junctions make core functions within the system work better, and it's "cleaner" than using the "move location" biznazz.

Anyway, long story short, I gave up and simply spent the extra 10 minutes starting again with reinstalling Windows (gotta love SSDs) once again... I'm just going to copy/paste all of my actual data, because I think the AppData folder contains installation-specific information that was conflicting between my original installation and the new installation.
