Questions on RAID 0

I'm exploring hooking up a Raid 0 array. I have a few questions though. I'm thinking about getting a large 200 gig drive for mass storage, and hooking my current two 80 giggers up into the actual RAID setup. There's only one thing I'm unsure of: one is based on IDE and the other is SATA. Is it possible to hook these two types of drives up into the RAID 0 configuration? If so, are there any pitfalls I might run into? Stability problems?

It might be motherboard dependant, so if it helps, I am using the A8N SLI-Deluxe motherboard from ASUS. Suggestions for other setups are welcome aswell.

    Thanks.

Well, there are a few downsides... Mainly:

    1) You double the chance of losing all of your data on both drives.

    2) There may be no noticeable increase in performance. (You will probably notice a difference if you do video editing, audio mixing, or any work that requires moving large files) For gaming, you probably won't be able to see any difference.

But, as far as stability, there should be no problems. If you want to do this to make your levels load 50% faster, then you will be dissapointed. IIRC, they load about 7% faster than without RAID. In which case, I would advise against spending the time and money.

Would I just be better off getting something like a 10k RPM hard drive instead of going with RAID then?

    IMO, yes.
