guys I gotta pickup a laptop for a friend today. either an acer 14" i3-4030 [v3p model] or HP 15.6 with A8-6410.
I searched but could not find any real comparisons of the processors and GPU's, just anecdotals and robot-generated idiocy.
both the laptops have OK reviews from real users given the sorry state of the industry. I favor the 14" form factor but other things weigh in as well.

    which would you prefer?
anyone have a clue as to the GPU comparison? I assume the A8 kicks but I see some favorable reviews of the i3-4030u HD 4400 .... dunno

    your opinions matter!

The i3, hands down, though neither are a great choice if gaming is a consideration. It will run cooler and have better battery life. As for GPU related? HD 4400 is no slouch for IGP.

My wife runs Diablo 3 at medium settings on the HD2500 w/ an i3. I run Diablo 3 at full settings, 1080p on an HD4400 with an i7 quad core.

    I appreciate that definitive response!
bad news/ good news - the 14" i3 model I hesitated on is gone - it was a great price. Good news is for +50 more bucks right now I can get the kin i5-4210 model with HD4400 . but 15.6.... I am so tired of these 15.6" things. uggghhh

I don't think the performance gap will be noticeable between the models, but I do shed a tear for the battery life of the AMD machine.

It might be worth it just to pay another 50 bucks to further future proof it some. I don't personally mind 15.6, I can't stand 17 inchers though.

    done.
bought a dell latitude 14, full warranty from dell, i3-4030u, $350 shipped.

almost hit the trigger on HP Elitebook 820 12.5" i3-4010u for $308... brand new full warranty.

the biz is nuts. none of the truly good deals including the above are on "black this or cyber-that"... these are the respective manufacturers' top -of line... quietly being flushed out the back door while the retail mftr web site tries to get $1000 for these things.
