I run a website in my spare time that takes up alot of computer space. Recently I bought a external hard drive to backup files on so that I could free up space on my laptop. Yesterday I went to back up all of my files and I decided to back them up into Rar archives. After backing them up on the external hard drive I deleted them off my computer. I got the message that this file was to big for the recycling bin and to click yes if I wanted to permanently delete it. I did. The file is gone but my computer memory hasn't recovered from the 15 gb RAR file. What happened and is there any way I can get this 15 gbs back?

    Thanks.

I did them both, CCleaner only found about 80mbs of data to delete. Degfragment found alot of stuff that cant be deleted one file being this:

    15.14 GB \System Volume Information\_restore{39C571A2-5C6A-433B-8AC6-DBD815F09639}\RP822\A0194177.exe

could this be the file that didn't delete?

That looks like a restore point was created that includes that file.

Windows doesn't like to let you into that folder. It is considered super hidden.

Which OS are you running? The simplest way would be if everything is working to clear your old restore points. Then make a new one.

If you want to save most of your old restore points we would have to get you into that folder and selectively delete the folder with that restore point.

CCleaner has a Restore Point deletion utility (it won't let you delete your most recent Restore Point, though). CCleaner --> Tools --> System Restore. Highlight as many as you wish, right click and select Delete.

    Nice tip! :)

Maybe creating a new one would allow that last large one be deleted?
