I have heard that you should not use more than one anti-virus on the same computer. What harm can be done by doing this?

I'm currently using Norton AntiVirus as my virus protection, as well as

    -Spyware Blaster
    -Crapcleaner
    -Ad-Aware
    -Spyware Blaster
    -Spyware Guard
    -SpyBot Search + Destroy
    -Microsoft AntiSpyware
    -a-squared Free Edition
    -ZoneAlarm Free Firewall

Will any of these programs conflict with eachother? I downloaded a-squared out of the anti-virus section of this site, but can any problems arise using it?

You should run only ONE antivirus because it will cause conflicts on your computer.

You should check out this thread on How to Protect yourself from malware!

You should only run ONE antivirus and one firewall, and please not that if you use anything other than Windows Firewall be sure you disable the built in firewall.

    A-squared isn't an antivirus program. It's an on-demand trojan/malware scanner.

Never used it, thanks though. Not sure if this would cause conflicts with another AV program, would still stick to one AV.

a-squared Free Edition is a Trojan / Malware cleaner and should NOT conflict with Norton or any other AV.

    To Quote:

a-squared (a²) is a complementary product to antivirus software which is specialized in protection against harmful software. Antivirus software often features an inadequate protection against Trojans, Dialers and Spyware. a² fills this gap.

Check the Alternative Scans section of the READ ME FIRST. A-squared is listed there along with others. We would not list it there if it caused conflicts.

Also contrary to popular belief you can have 2 Anti Virus Apps installed BUT they will conflict if you have them both set to live scanning, however you can with the one not set to live scan do an on demand scan when you disable the other... altho I cannot see the point and its not really recomended that is why their are many online scanners like Trends Housecall, Panda's PandaScan etc that aid as a backup.

Yes! But having more than one installed, even if not doing live scanning still wastes lots of system resources because they still load processes and services.

Exactly and thats why the online scans are a good 2nd tool :)
