    Here's what im running currently:

    ASUS P4P800 MB
    P4 HT 2.8GHz
    1 GIG Ram
    NVIDIA 6600GT AGP

I have been wanting to build a new system, but I dont have the funds at the moment. Would upgrading to an NVIDIA 7 series card make much of a difference gaming wise, or should I just save my money until I can build a new system?

rumors are that nvidia is going to release an 8 series AGP card sometime in the near future, how real is it? im not sure but its definitely a possibility. right now the best AGP card is an x1950 followed:cool by the geforce 7950GT and 7900GS

also, you may want to upgrade your processor: the best 478 proc is the p4 extreme edition which ive only been able to find on ebay for about $130

adding another gig of RAM would be good as well.

It all depends on how much disposable income you have; can you afford to spend more in the long run by upgrading this maching to last a bit longer then building a whole new system later? or just saving up for a while then building a new system from scratch? personally, id go with the second choice but im still guilty of dragging this old computer out for a while lol. it actually is still holding up well despite its age (3 years is a looooooong time for computer tech lol)

His question was if the card upgrade would work, please try and answer the question, it is more helpful then suggesting 3 other things he did not ask about.

Let us know what 7 card your considering and what problems you are having. Video cards get expensive after a while, to the point a new system can often be worth it.

Not really having any problems, just having trouble running some of the newer games coming out smoothly. It will probably be at least a year (when I finish school) before i can get a new system.

    I'm looking at possibly getting a 7600GT - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150210

Could I squeeze out any more performance with this?

    Thanks for the replies

sorry, got a bit carried away there but i guess i was just trying to give the best upgrade possibilities to keep the computer around a bit longer.

Yes, a 7600GT is quite a bit better than your 6600GT but the difference in speed for the price is up to u to decide. check out this chart for actual numbers: http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphics_2007.html

id just save up a bit more for a 7900GS or x1950
