I got an HP computer with a NetScape browser and internet is through dial-up...I cant get on the internet...after going through a bunch of useless steps NetScape led me through, I called HP and they said that i had to uninstall my current browser and then re-install it, but the catch is HP said they are the only ones that can do it and will charge a fee!! Is there anyway to by-pass this? Free browser? do it myself? anyone been close to a problem like this? etc? thanks in advance!

They want to CHARGE to to install FREE software on your machine! That's ludicrous!

They are NOT the only ones who can do it! Here's how to uninstall (post back if you have any questions):

    1. Open Control Panel
    2. Double-click Add/Remove programs
    3. Scroll down to Netscape Navigator
    4. Click the remove button.

You will have to follow the wizard that comes up to remove it.

To re-install, you simply run the installation file. You can download it from this link. It will have another wizard to follow.

That's doesn't make sense to me... I would think you have a bum modem or a bad driver if anything. How would reinstalling the browser do anything?

I'd suggest reinstalling your modem driver from whatever discs HP gave you before sending it back.

Yea weird to me too...Basically i can dial up and get on the net but i cant use it!! Thanks for the quick reply...i will try your suggestion...This may be a little late (sorry) but the computer is a HP Pavilion A705W running XP! AND yes they said only "them" could un-install the browser and re-install a new one!! With a fee of course!! (maybe labor?)..

if your dialing up and making the connection fine, don't reinstall your modem. Its more then likely not the issue. Try to istall a free browser other then netscape, like firefox, its free.

Ohh...you're connecting but not able to view the internet. Now I get it. Just download a different browser (as Coleman suggested) anything should work if you are connected to the internet.

Better idea, lets go to start click run, then type cmd into the popup run window. now hit enter, then type ping google.com and see if it gives you a timeout or replys. This ping tests the conneciton.
