    Hi,
    My daughter has an ipod, and we keep loosing itunes on our pc's, when we try to install it again it says that we need quicktime, which is corrupted on both pc's, we have tried to uninstall but to no avail, it says it can't uninstal and won't repair or remove, I am at my wits end and have tried everything to get it uninstalled and reinstalled, we both have xp, and a average pc, min: 160 hard drive and 512 ram with a 3.0 prosesser, if anyone has any ideas please let us know.
    Thanks to all,
    ziggi x

    I'm not an iTunes guy, but there's some alternatives to QuickTime. They're called (you guessed it) QuickTime Alternative and QuickTime Alternative Lite. Here's the links:

    http://www.majorgeeks.com/QuickTime_Alternative_Lite_d5609.html
    I'm not sure if those will work for your situation, but it's worth a shot I suppose. Try a 3rd party uninstaller (Revo: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download5706.html) to try to remove QuickTime completely. You may need to clean the bad registry entries after uninstalling it; that could be what's preventing re-installation. Use CCleaner (link: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4191.html) and click Run Cleaner; then click the Issues button, and fix all it finds. Then try re-loading QuickTime (or iTunes). Another good registry cleaner is Wise Registry Cleaner (link: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download5437.html). If you're not real familiar with the registry or reg cleaners, be careful, and stick with CCleaner. It's always proven itself to be safe for cleaning the registry IMO... good luck!

    Hi,

    Thanks for that, I have tried it all, we have ccleaner and use it all the time, so now I am at a loss.
    The revo, did a few things including taking stuff off the registery, but in the end it came up with "can't remove older version of quicktime".
    I would wipe my pc, but daughters is new and nothing on her hard drive yet, and it still won't install, perhaps I should bug quicktime, I think that they must have some bad files or something wrote into their programs. .
    Anyway thanks again for the info.

    How is it corrupted? Is it giving any specific errors?

    Also, did you attempt to re-download the latest version, and re-install, after what hopperdave posted?

    I did notice you stated that it still won't install, that is after you did what hopper dave stated? Error codes is a nice thing to post. :)

    i believe i am having the same issue.

    i am running xp on a dell inspiron and emachines desktop

    I attempted to uninstall both itunes and quicktime after upgrading them via the itunes update 7.something.

    the interfaced was terrible and it totally slowed my desktop down. I started with my notebook since it was moving faster. tried system restore to point before the install. would not not restore at all with a regular boot. it seemed to work in safe mood but then i got a blank screen and completely unresponsive key board after (what seemed like a successful) reboot.

    i undid the system restore. tried another (several) uninstall/reinstall in the following way:

    via add/remove progs:

    unistalled itunes
    unistalled Quick time
    unistalled ipod updater

    (note: add/remove makes you choose "uninstall" or "uninstall everything". it say uninstall everything is not recommended since it will mess with some of the other programs on my comp. So i went with "unistall")

    via process explorer:

    ipodservice.exe --> killed process tree
    ituneshelper.exe--> killed process tree
    qttask.exe --> killed process tree

    went into c and then Program files then "itunes folder"
    threw out itunehelper.exe.
    then into "ipod" floder and threw out "bin" folder (containing "ipodservice.exe") and the "ipodupdater" folder
    then in to C\program files\quicktime and threw out all remaining exe files

    emptied recycle bin

    then into C\documents and and settings\check every file user folder for temp files or application data folders containin apple, itunes, or quicktime folders. if they did i emptied them out to the recylcing bin.

    then i emptied the recyling bin. i used a registry fix (see thread "uninstalled itunes caused dvd drive failure" in majorgeeks support forum under "hardware").
    then i rebooted to complete the above uninstalls.

    then i rechecked the C\program files and C\documents and and settings\ to make sure none of those files didn't mysteriously reappear.

    then i reinstalled my original itunes version from the CD. (i do not want the updated version). when prompted to format my ipod, i selected something like "do it later". completed the installation steps.

    I was very suspicious when itunes puts up the following fields:
    "serial Number from the back of you ipod"
    "name"
    "email address"

    they already had my information in them.

    finished installation. opened itunes got the following message
    "quicktime unavailable"
    "quick time failed to initialize. Error #2905.
    please make sure that quicktime is properly installed on the computer."
    reboot the computer has not changed this.
    updating the quicktime software has not changed this.

    i had tried previously simply to uninstall and then reinstall the without taking the care to stop the .exe files and trash the leftovers out of C (program file and Documents&settings).

    at that time result was an error message saying that itunes could not locate the ipod since itunes was not installed properly.

    please advise.

    thank you for your time,

    Hi,

    Yep me too, infact I just went onto search and deleted all that I could so that it was all clear so the new version would go on, but it still said that the old version would not delete, so I then put in apple on search and found some of the old version left so I am just in the middle of sifting through it all.

    I stopped getting the error though, but now I can't remember what number of the error was hahaha, just my luck.

    I have a lappy with vista on and I have itunes on that but it keeps saying that it needs mending when I start it up, so I press yes and it mends it for me.

    Anyway good luck, let us know if you install it.
