Aw man that really does suck. I really enjoyed that show and I like him. He did have a smoking and coffee problem tho. But what else can you do when your in that environment bored, lonely, nothing to do. I kinda do the same on the internet but not that many smokes! But RIP Captain! There finally keeping ya home.

    Shucks!! R.I.P.
Nice TV serial. Agree with Bill, those guys are heroes.
Each time I watched an episode, I'd feel like being out there for a day or two - just for the experience. Cheers..

I watched the majority of the shows because of his interactions with his son's. He will definitely be missed on the show.

I didn't watch the show much though I did see the one where he was coughing up blood and then found out that he had a pulmonary embolism and I guess this was part of that event. RIP Cptn. Phil

Amazing the way tosses you around like a ball,he worked the most dangerous job in the world and it was natural causes that killed him, well to an extent anyway strokes are hard to predict.

I still can't get over Roy Schmidt from American hot Rod dying,he died in 2005 of lung cancer I was really touched watching the episode when he died, he used to make me piss my pants with his dry wit.I watch that show religiously every day but only started watching it from the first episode a few months ago, then I was even more shocked to find out Coddington the owner and probably star of the show had died in 2008,so I have that episode to look forward to :(

    Godspeed, Captain.

I like the show, and Harris seemed like a genuine, squared away boss, father, and friend.

Probably the damn cigarettes didn't help matters . . . they certainly killed my brother. I'm glad I kicked them (though after smoking for 25 years I may have already killed myself and just don't know it yet . . . ).

On a long enough time line, everyone's survival rate drops to 0. My Great Grandmother smoked into her 70's and died at 101 of nothing less than boredom (and I suppose old age). You never know what's going to matter... My Grandmother smoked, quit for nearly 20 years, got cancer, and was gone. I don't think it matters, I mean..... it does, and it doesn't. When your number's up, it's up. :cool

I am not sure what to believe about smoking.
My wifes sister never smoked in her life didn't drink much and died of cancer at 47,yet you hear of people who smoked all their life and live to a ripe old age.

As for Captain Harris the job must have been stressful so that would not help.

I said it earlier they are heroes to do that job just so we can have crab on the menu.

Well, I guess they're heroes to their families but I can do without crabs, as tasty as they are.;) Anyone hear of folks who sit long times in an aircraft, like US to Aus., some folks are susceptible to DVP(deep vein thrombosis) in their legs. All the coffee, cigs, sleeplessness, stress etc. had to add up.

As I said before, he's already had a clot in his lungs so was a ripe candidate for more similar occurrences since he didn't change his ways. Who knows, even if he had changed his ways he still might have died.

At least he didn't drown with his crew as so many do and brought a last load of crab home.:) I guess that's the way many folk envision their death, die doing what you love, that's selfish to me as he had a family but so be it.:wave

About the smoking thing. I agree with you about the weirdness of smoking and cancers. Because My Grandma who is in the higher 80's and she smoked most of her life(no hacking up). And she's hard headed to climbing things when I tell her to cll me and Ill do it but she wont listen. And my other Grandma smoked and stopped 10 yrs or so ago... and no she got inhaler and now shes bad when walking a short distance so she needs oxygen machine to help her out some.. And shes high 80's to.
