I just heard. He fought the good fight lasting 8 years with a variant of pancreatic cancer which is quite rare. I've never bought anything by Apple but everything we have today had the rest of the industry scrambling. It was a good life. R.I.P. my good man.

Whatever anyone thinks about the company, the products or the man - the world has lost a true computer pioneer and genius. Not many people can say that they have changed the world by the time they are in their forties.

    R.I.P.: Steve...:cry

I don't care for Apple products, or for their business methods, but only a moron would even try to deny that the world as we know it today would not exist without Steve Jobs. He had arrogance beyond decency, perhaps, but he also had true genius, and was the kind of visionary that the world hardly ever sees.

PCs and personal electronics today would not be what they are, if not for him. He's leaving one hell of a legacy behind, and one we should all be grateful for.

Rest well, Steve. Da Vinci, Shakespeare, Curie, and Einstein are looking forward to meeting you.

Our first computer at home was an Apple IIe. It was great, but then again, we never had a computer at home. Of course the string of successes from the iPod to using Intel chips in the Macs made Apple great.

But Steve Jobs, ego maniacal that he was, it was that ego mania that made him fantastic and a tenacious businessman.

I am not an Apple fan either, but there is no doubt he made all the other companies step it up so they could compete. So, whether an Apple fan or not, there's no doubt he did everyone a service.

Three Apples that changed the world: the one Eve ate, the one that fell on Newton’s head & the one that Steve built. RIP Steve Jobs. I wonder how his death will affect technology and innovation...?

+1 Motc7, those people have no redeeming qualities in my opinion.

I have seen the Patriot Guard a couple of times. Once at a funeral phelps was supposed to protest (he did not show up) and another time on a tour they did. Very impressive, great people.

If Ray Kroc were still alive and died today, would he be hailed as a visionary genius because he brought us the Big Mac? but regarding Jobs dying: Just before you die, you see your life pass in a Flash. Steve Jobs did not experience that. Apple does not support flash.

+1 at MOTCs post on that kooky church.

    WOW what can I say.......

Steve Jobs was as many have mentioned in the press and beyond, he was a visionary, while not in some respects a archetypal creator as we may see him, he did do the following that made life easier for the masses..

Computer > Personal PC easier to use at home
Personal Music Player > wow from the Sony Walkman to the iPod Touch!
Mobile Phone > iPhone and moved the smartphone into the reach of the masses.
Tablet PC > the iPad is a great device, not as feature rich as you'd like as in not doing stuff that netbooks and laptops using windows or Android do but its a spark of genius.

He did not create all of the above but HE did make them better.

Well, Steve Wozniak, A.K.A. "the wizard of Woz", was the real brains behind Apple, i.m.o. And, ironically, he got the worst financial deal out of it. He's a rich man, but not compared to Jobs or Gates. Such is life.

I have never owned any apple products and probably never will but that is not to say that Steve did not change the world as we knew it.
He was an excellent PR man as he proved when he returned to Apple after a long break, he put it back at the top of the pile.
    RIP Steve.

Westboro Baptist Church Uses iPhone to Announce Plans to Picket Steve Jobs' Funeral

Updated: Friday, 07 Oct 2011, 7:44 AM CDT
    Published : Friday, 07 Oct 2011, 7:44 AM CDT

(NewsCore) - Westboro Baptist Church, the independent church whose members take pride in celebrating the deaths of fallen soldiers, said Thursday it would take its anti-social campaign to Apple co-founder Steve Jobs' funeral.

Somewhat ironically, Westboro founder Fred Phelps' daughter Margie used an iPhone application to tweet that the church would picket.

"Westboro will picket his funeral. He had a huge platform; gave God no glory & taught sin," she wrote.

"No peace for man who served self, not God," she added later.

The Topeka, Kansas-based church, made up almost entirely of members of the Phelps family, is known for its extreme stance against homosexuality and its anti-social protest activities. It is widely described as a hate group.

The death Wednesday of Jobs, Apple's 56-year-old co-founder and former CEO, touched off a wave of international tributes. No date has yet been set for his funeral.

All posts about Westboro do, i.m.o., is give further free publicity to those anti-social, venomous nut-jobs rolleyes. We all know they are an abomination, let's not help them any with free publicity. Some people strive to be famous, some strive to be infamous. It's all attention seeking behaviour, i.m.h.o.

I asked a computer friend,(who doesnt use/hates itune...apple..)I know why people use Apple..which to some people asking why they are Christian/Jewish/Snake handlers... this is what he said:

To answer why so many people love itunes, apple, steve jobs, etc. The answer is 4 fold, and the answers are pretty much all social:

    1. A lot of people place looks over functionality. Apple products are designed to be pretty.
    2. Apple spends a LOT on advertising. Advertising causes people to think about things, and in this busy world, people often don't bother taking the time to weigh options, and just assume the best option is the most advertised one, assuming the best one will make the most money and get the most advertising (ironically, it worked that way until people started making their decision that way. Now it's just advertising, people buy it, which pays for more advertising.)
    3. Apple products have a tendency to "get to the point". They take almost no setup, no time to learn, and just as long as you're willing to pay their money (over and over again), things will run seamlessly together without any work on the person's part.
    4. Apple products, for the most part, are designed to work only with other apple products. So if you get one (and they make sure to have some cheap ones on the market), then you're going to need the other apple products to make full use of them, and will often do so when getting a new item, increasing their reliance on mac products, until all their products are mac. (Example: They get the ipod or iphone first. When picking out a computer, they think "hmm... the mac will work better with my ipod, and integrates itunes without me having to download." so they get the mac. They then, when they buy their next item, will get the one that will work best with their computer - a mac at that point- and so on. Then, if they ever try to leave apple products, the stuff seems to not work, so they say it's due to apple products being "better".)

So in short, the apple products are popular, because the average person is either superficial, lazy, impatient, or is a general sucker.. That's really the reason right there. I've heard Mac users give lots of reasons, but each one I've heard, somewhere along the line, boils down to one fo those four.
