No, no, musksnipe, it's OK, it just proves that today, the only way to stop TONY, was to stop the race :p :-D

Now, I mentioned at the beginning of this thread that MOTO GP was my favorite, well, thanks to the wonders of the web, I can enjoy it, won't bother with all the details, just a clip,,,

This is the "redbull rookie series", all riders are on identical rides, 250 cc's, and all are kids, you'll see at the end on the podium, they are 13-15 yrs old, watch,,,full screen for the best view ;)

@ dnnyo right on top of it huh? ;)

I'll leave the F1 news to Halo but, the nascar news is mine ;)

This weekend is the "Coke Zero 400" at DAYTONA, oh, yeah!

here's some of the news of the week,

It's not looking good for Truex and DEI, his cup car was impounded for repeatedly failing pre race tech inspections, NASCAR is shipping the car off for further inspections to determine penalties, but with him in 14th in the points and in a back up car, the penalties, if stiff enough, could put him out of contention for the chase
    Here's the details http://www.nascar.com/2008/news/hea....fails.practice.inspection.daytona/index.html

Bad news for Franchitti a lack of sponsership means Ganassi is dropping the 40 car, effective immediatly, story here, http://www.nascar.com/2008/news/headlines/cup/07/01/dfranchitti.cganassi.two.teams/index.html

and finally, so much for my predictions, (at least for now), it seems the new driver next season, of the #5 Hendricks car will be, none other than, drumroll please,,,,,,,Mark Martin.
So much for MY dreamteam :cry Story here, http://www.nascar.com/2008/news/headlines/cup/07/01/mmartin.hendrick/index.html

INDY CARS The Indy cars are at Watkins Glen, July 6th, 3:30 pm EST on ABC

Well its F1 British GP weekend and looks as if its going to be an exciting one, WOW Mark Webber on the front row, GO Red Bull!!!

David Coultard has announced at end of this season that he will retire from F1, been a great career for him with 13 Wins IIRC but sadly no world championship win, but he's been as competitive as he could in the cars he has raced so good luck to him in whatever he does next, which is likely to manage and grow his hotel business.

So all eyes are on who may fill his shoes at Red Bull, with this team on the up in the rankings they will attract good drivers, Alonso is in the frame as is Vettel from the up for sale sister team Toro Rosso.

Back to the Quali.... mixed sessons with rain and dry weather, Ferrari's seemed off colour, but do they have a strategy which could explain the reletive slowness of them on a track that suits normally the Ferrari? so with the UKs changable weather I think its going to be a fantasic race tomorrow.

Spoiler for Scorer, the quali results

@ Halo we don't get anything, till starting time, so as long as it's not race results, yer OK ;):-D

@ muski when I saw the fluff piece on FOX about Mark retiring, they showed him watching the race from home for the first time, I knew by looking at him, he wasn't going to stay retired ;)

I say more power to him, he's still a force to be reckoned with, he'll be a good asset to the Hendricks team:)

CORR Racing anyone that's into off road racing, like the baja trucks, NBC will be showing a taped race on Sunday the 6th at 12pm PST, here's a clip, so you can see what it's about

I have a very general question about F1.

Here in Aussie the FTA channels seem to give F1 racing not much more than a cursory mention during news hour, of course they always mention Mark Webber, he is Aussie and playing with the big fellars at the pinnacle of his sports category. He always seems to do well in qualifying but then stuff happens. Is he luckless or hapless?

What say you readers? (Yep stole if from scorcer, Corr Racing :eek) - paramonks

Yeah, Carl Edwards wins, Tony stewart ends up 22nd after swtching out with JJ Yeley due to illness :(

@ paramanks, Halo can answer that for you, here in the US we don't get any news on F1, we finally get some races at the end of the season because FOX hands over Nascar to ABC and TNT, so FOX picks up F1 to finish the season

  16. musksnipe

All season, races have been ending like this because there are too many reckless drivers trying to force their way to the front and the win, without regard for who they are wrecking and with a complete lack of skill.
Racing is not bashing a driver out of the way so you can win. It is out-driving the other driver.
    /end rant

But it was an exciting and interesting race. :)

I was watching the race up until the last 10 laps and then got distracted reading and posting after turning the ads off. Lots of action there, a very nice save by the guy who drove through the grass and then got the car back on the pavement going straight. Very nice piece of driving.

    Hi Anne

I'd have thought that knowing how Aussies love their racing that F1 would have a better following on TV!? However on Marks case its a bit of both, he is a very quick driver but has not yet been in a team with a car that will both be quick and reliable, reliability is everything in F1 and with the likes of the newer teams, Red Bull which is his they need years to get a great car designed and also a great team as in mechanics, bosses etc to all work smoothly.

Glad to say that this year Red Bull and Mark Webber are doing very well this year and he is 8th in the world championship table, with Red Bull 4th in the constructors table... so all in all they doing well this year and with now having Adrian Newey as the designer of the car, and being one of the worlds best designers they are a team on the upward move I feel.

Wont spoil the race for Scorer, just will say it was interesting and good race.

It's over now, I loved it, BOY, what a "crap shoot", the weather played such a role today, glad I don't have a favorite, or it might have been a tough watch ;) What did you think Halo?

@ paramonks :( bummer day for Webber

    Hello All,

Halo :wave How is jolly old England today? Thanks for your input on Webber and the team he drives for, sounds like his situation is like most teams in any sort of motor racing, need good basics, talent to drive isn’t enough. It would be nice to see Webber and his team achieve better results, but I see he spun out again in the race on lap 38 which didn’t help his cause, :( yep bummer scorcer.
The FTA commercial channel here does show the races, most times though they start at ungodly hours and that doesn’t fit in well with motherly responsibilities. I like live action, so prefer not to tape and watch later as some clown will always blab about the results before hand. :-D

I went to the nascar site and watched the video feed of the end of race. Must say those guys know how to crash stylishly, not like our V8’s flying in every direction. Speaking of flying a different FTA channel showed some of that Redbullair racing just recently, it looked awesome, not sure when it will be on again, will keep my eyes peeled.

Nice thread fellas, any other favourite linkies you want to add? - paramonks (I know I'm a link junkie):p

Ok, finally found a good video of the Red Bull Air Races
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xshjgHVb-RI&feature=related

On a seperate note, I went back and watched the F1 race again, that was one crazy race, I have to hand it to the drivers and the teams for getting out there and giving it their all. They didn't let a little thing like rain and visibility get in their way. Nascar could learn a little something there ;)

  26. N5638J

    N5638J Guest

Yea Nascar could learn afew things from them but yet Nascar has became more safety over everything else and also Nascar runs racing slicks and there not the same kinda tire they like to spin in the rain. if i remember right also F1 cars have somewhere around 8000lbs of downforce so if they wanted to they could race upside down on the roof of your ceiling and not fall off while Nascars don't have the same amount of downforce.

Absolutly right a crapshoot! do feel as if Ferrari and Kimi threw the race away, why oh why did they not change his tires for new and add a few laps more fuel in at the 1st pitstop??? He was easily quicker than Lewis until that point, after that well it was like syncronised spinning for all!

Would have been easier to count how many times Massa stayed on the track than go off.. think he had a really bad setup in that car, seemed to be the engine map was for dry race in giving him max revs out of slow corners, just couldnt get power down without loosing the back end... or was it more that he missed traction control and is not good at feathering the throttle?

Very suprised that Lewis managed to keep it on the island, but a good drive and maybe he had a good talking to from Ron to cool it as he is not making himself popular with attacking the press as he has been of late.

Superb drive from Rubins to get 3rd, and think that the old strategic master of Ross is now going to pay dividens at Honda, they just need a quick and reliable car for when its not raining!

With three now heading the leaderboard, its shaping up to be a memorable season, still cannot wait for the Singapore night race.

  28. scorcer

    scorcer ajMro keGe

@ N5638J they could use a weather tire, it would be a different race, but like in F1, it would still be a race, imperfect conditions can be a great equalizer ;)

@ Halo :-D I knew you were going to lead with the Ferarri blunder, I saw the front right tire guy look at the worn tread and slightly raise his hands like "what the ?", but they wern't the only ones who tried that, there was a pit stop later on where one team took fuel and tires, the other took fuel, and they came out as they came in, no difference, so why not take the tires. It's not like there's great slick grip under the rain tread for when it get's dry

And Massa, how frustrating was that, poor guy, you loop it, so you HAVE to catch up, which leads to more looping
Then there's Coulthard(sp?) last race on home soil right? Which leads me to a question, why are they "out" if they get trapped in the gravel?

I enjoy reading your take on it, you know your stuff when it comes to F1. I've got some catching up to do, but FOX said they are going to carry the rest of the season, so woo hoo

Yes in the wet trying to catch up is going to lead you to make a few mistakes and without traction control now on the cars, they are very easy to hit the power and spin the back wheels, which then earn you a spin if you use too much power.

As for gravel trap, then the rule is that you can get out under your own power, but any assistance will cause you to be black flagged ( forced to retire ) and a big unless is IF the car is in a dangerous position!! but beached and your out of luck as mainly its the plank of wood thats under the center of the car front to back that diggs into the gravel, and the car just wont move forward in many cases.

David Coultard yes last home race and out on 1st lap!! oooops, I can still see him doing something in the F1 arena, has a massive taste for the sport.

Cheers, loved racing since I was a kid, not a football/soccer fan, much prefer motorsports. Good stuff on Fox, just a pitty we dont have a USA race still, maybe in future the plans are to go back to vegas.

Great thread Scorer, glad you started this one, as many here love motorsports of various kinds to keep it alive.
