Radion 9800 pro: Texture pixilation

Hello, I'm Rayne... and I'm getting despirate.

I resently perchased a new Radion 9800 Pro, have updated the drivers fully, baught new cooling solutions and even gone to the extreem of reformating the PC, yet I am still faced with a magure problem. Ever since first instalation, every moddern game I try on it gets this same irritating problem where the graphics get, what I can only discribe as, totaly fragged. The effect usualy starts in the smaller images; in Vampire Bloodlines things like the popup maps, decals and fire effects will start to go first. Then rather rappidly the problem will spread to other larger textures incuding buildings and eventualy NPC skins before the game bottemed out on me, either crashing compleatly or reterning me to the main desktop with an error message on the ATI cytalist monitor. Its quite confusing.

Now. I have updated the drivers compleatly, so thats not the problem. However. While serching for a sulution to Freelancer (which isn't working at all bytheway) I discovered a help part of their Techsuport that said something about the 'Graphical exceliration' settings on Windows itself causing the same problem in the Freelancer game (asteroids and ships would aper to have 'shattered textures')

However, I am unconvinced this could cause the trouble I have been facing. As I won't be able to test this theary untill I get home, I thought I may as well check to see if there's anything you can sugest mine doing at the same time once I get back from work? If there any info you can give me that might help with this conundrem I would be most grateful? Remember this is not a driver or heating problem as far as I am awear, so I'm realy stuck as to what the cause may be.

open ur case while it's on my fan died on mine once...so make sure it's spining cause it sounds like a overheating problem...or it could not be gettin enoguh power....what size psu do u have?....u need at least 400watts

 

nope it's working and I have a 500W power supply. I am curently formating the harddrive as we speek on my other machean so I'll let you know if this solves the problem (there were other dificuties before all this started)

 

What other difficulty?
Have you tried the 9800 on the other machine?

Ok, update on the problem so far. Reformatting helped a lot, most of the issues I was having have gone but the problem with the card still remains. I have noticed that several people have posed similor threads discribing almost the same probem yet none seem to have found a solution. Curently, if I run a game such as Freelancer (at least a year old) then the Pc will run fine for a long period, from half an hour upto about 2 hours or so and then randomly Reset the PC for no apparant reason. However, with more resent games (Vampire bloodlines and HL2) I get more problems ocuring then just the reset. The reset happens within ten to fifteen minuets or with in three minuets it will do one of two things;
1. The screen freezes and turns white apart from a line of black checks down the center (like on a chess board)
2. game bottems out and reterns to the desktop showing no signs of any error report or attempt to save it from crashing.

I still am yet to find a solution to any of these problems. Please can anyone shed some light on this problem?

Current set up:

-P4 3Ghz (resently upgraded fan to improve cooling, now runs at max of 48*C even after heavy usage)
-1GB DDR 400 ram (512 X2)
-ATI Radion 9800 pro 128mb 8X AGP
-Sound on MB
-500w psu

 

Im in a similar position, with my radeon 9800 pro i freeze up after about 5 minutes of HL2, and now its even freezing radomly out of games once in awhile, tried all sorts or drivers, still no help there, mines the ultimate with the big ass heat sink on it, so no fan issues possible, 450w ps, no help there. i wish somebody somewhere would figure this out, lol god knows ive spent too much time on it already.

 

well mine would do the same but i just got a bigger psu and modded a cpu fan onto it and it runs fine now....but i dunno try to ask people at many diff forums
