I'm trying to set up a raid5 system. There's a lot of info on how to do this but they all seem to fail to inform me of a basic issue. My question is does the raid system have to be created and then install the OS? Or can it be created with an OS already installed?

I would set it up first. If you do it afterwards, you risk the loss of your data, basically anytime you mess with your drives (raid, partitions) you want to back up first. RAID changes how your machine sees the drive (so 2 drives technically become one). I have not done it with an OS installed, my guess is you will lose whats on the drive.
