Here goes get some coffee this may be long. This is for a teacher who is a single parent. I started a few months ago May of 08 to be exact. I cleaned her computer meaning ran all the run and read me things. Perfect everything came out clean it wasn't that bad then. I kept Avast, Spybot, Stop startup monitor, and ccleaner as this is usually what I put on all of my computers. Welll apparently the teenage daughter had to have limewire and ignored all of my warnings and all the programs that told her BAD GIRL!! She was annoyed that the programs wouldn't let her get her download so on 9-29-09 she turned off the firewall and avast and decided to download some bit torrent. So time went on and she ignored all the warnings and now it somehow lost the install of svc pack 3. Updates were turned off and no firewall or antivirus were on. How this computer didn't get up spin around and spew green stuff i don't know! On March 31st(as if i don't have enough going on with april first)I get a frantic call from mom saying she can't turn on the computer help! Her grading period has just started and NEEDS her computer! So now I am baffled I have never had a computer I have cleaned and had all the programs installed come back to me hmmm! I call it the blue screen of death but it had a user32.dll missing. So I slaved the computer on a clean machine replaced the missing dll. And started it up. Well now we have popups everywere and active desktop unabled(gotta love that one). All the norm when a computer is infected. Found ALL the happy files daughter had to have soooo bad. So I run the cleaning procedures again for the Windows xp. This time I notice you took out the spybot search and destroy option hmmm... (why is that just curious?) So ran it and well no pop ups and everything seems to run fin except both SAS and malwarebytes are finding problems. I updated all the programs installed svc pck 3 and removed old java updated to new. I deleted a ton of games that were not used. I tried to restart in safe mode but I can't use a mouse or a keyboard. Tried to repair that with no luck, no keyboard or mouse to be found it is missing. So ok back to normal mode then. Now I decide to go ahead and delete the 2 kids users and all of their files because I am aggravated ugh. I have toggled system restore ran Avast, it found nothing. I ran Spybot it found nothing. I run SAS finds problems when i fix it says it needs to restart computer it does and nothing happens I am stopped however and need to enter password to get back in. This happens with malwarbytes too!(Which by the awesome program)!!So now I am here I just can't figure what the issue is. I know it has to do with mywebsearch, seekmo, and zango toolbars. Deleting them from the regestry in regedit and hjt is pointless they are back to their comfy spot in seconds. So before I gently beat the machine with a heavy object. What would be your suggestion on how to fix this? I am attaching all the most recent logs so hopefully someone can help me out. I looove challenges but this one is just got me. Your help is greatly appreciated.

You are way way out of date with your version of MGtools. You always need to download and use the current version from our link. Before downloading the current version and running it, I want you to do the below.

    Uninstall the below software:
    LimeWire 4.18.6
My Way Search Assistant <-- should have been uninstalled in step 1 of the READ ME

Run this Resetting Registry and File Permissions make sure you reboot where requested.

Now run Malwarebytes and update it first because a new version is out. Run a new scan and attach the new log.

Now we need to use ComboFix again
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box into it:
    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below
    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Also delete all files and subfolders in the below folders except ones from the current date (Windows will not let you delete the files from the current day).
    C:\WINDOWS\Temp
    C:\Documents and Settings\LINDA CORRIGAN\Local Settings\temp

Now run Ccleaner to clean out only temp files and nothing else!

Now download the current version of MGtools and save it to your root folder. Overwrite your previous MGtools.exe file with this one.

Run MGtools.exe ( Note: If using Vista make sure UAC is still disabled. Also don't double click on it, use right click and select Run As Administrator )

    Now attach the below log:
    • the new log from Malwarebytes
    • C:\ComboFix.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!
