    Speculant The Confused One

How would I implement a RAM-based storage system into a regular desktop computer? I see that it's used a lot in servers, but how is it really used, and how would I gain a speed increase by using a RAM-based HDD (not as a main HDD of course, more like a giant cache)? Like, maybe on boot i could have a program that wrote the entire HDD onto the RAM drive? Would that work?

    Thanks!
