So I've had this no-name brand ram forever, and I've always had little problems, like games would occasionally crash, or the computer would reset randomly.

Recently it started getting worse. I have 2 sticks of 512 DDR, that is supposedly 3200, but i think it's actually overclocked 2700...stupid cheating non-name brand companies... ANYWAYS, I saw other threads about this topic, but none of them had a software type solution. I removed one stick of ram, and ran with just the other, and had no errors. I ran memtest with both sticks, over 6000 errors after 5 hours.

This leads me to believe there is a software issue, if either stick works fine independent of the other. I just updated my bios, and no change.

    Any suggestions?

Without the additional stick, everquest 2 runs slowww, and I haven't tried bf2 with just one yet, but I bet it would be slow.

I would suspect that your CPU might be overheating, especially if it is overclocked. You might need to find a better CPU cooler.

I don't have it overclocked ATM, and I took out one dimm, and now it hasn't crashed anything in two days.

When i have one ram stick in, it's fine, with two, things crash.

Is this not in the appropriate forum? this is the first time I've ever had a question not answered very quickly, and correctly in just over a day.

maybe you have a bad ram slot?

They are the same brand, I've tried them in multiple slots. I believe all my specs are in my sig now, updated. I've only had 1 dimm in for a while now, with NO memory errors at all. As soon as I put the other one in, errors start popping up.

Please help, I've been away from graphically intense games for almost a month or two now!

Any ideas? Software solutions? Or should I just buy a gig of Ram ...ugh.?

Still no ideas...I've been running on 512, and reduced to Warcraft 3 for months. How do I know if I have dual channel?

well, i read up on my Mobo...it only supports up to pc 2700 333mhz... so I bought 2 gig sticks of it.

Installed both sticks, and same problem arose as with 2 sticks of 3200 400mhz.

I hink I'm reading you right. If thestick that "is working" can be tried in the slot that the other stick was in, and it doesn't work, wouldn't that tell us that the problem is a bad slot on mb. Only a suggesion!!!

Start, run and type in sysdm.cpl then OK.

Go to the Advanced tab, and under Startup and Recovery click Settings.

Under System Failure, uncheck Automatically Restart, then click OK and Apply.

That doesn't fix anything, but it will stop it from rebooting when it encounters an error, giving you a chance to diagnose the problem.

Wait till the error happens again, and post back with all the error details or log.

You can test your memory with MEMTEST.

not sure if you ever solved your problem.. but I had a VERY similar problem years ago. My RAM wouldn't run stable at the recommended speed so I actually had to underclock it to get the system running stable. Then I upgraded my mobo and videocard and the problems got much worse. I had all kinds of random crashes/resets the works. OpenGL games were usually fine, Direct3d games would crash to desktop or reset the machine.. certain games would crash at exactly the same point every time or have graphical glitches. So I thought it was driver related or some type of hardware conflict.. Well to make a long story short it turned out to be the power supply.. I don't know if it was A/C noise on the D/C or fluctuating voltages but buying a nice, heavy duty, name brand PSU fixed it right up. I never suspected that as a problem because in the BIOS all the voltages looked fine.. but that's idling.. not what goes on during a game with intense loads on everything. What I did was buy a PSU from Circuit City, tried it out and my system ran perfect! Then I ordered one from newegg.com for a half the price and when it came in a returned the other one to Circuit City.

if you havent fixed it already let us know how it works out.. Good luck!
