Ram opinion needed

Anyone have opinions on this Ram? It has ECC too.

Probably one of the best brands, but do you need ECC?

ECC is only desirable and justified in servers.

If you only have a desktop PC, you are wasting your money paying the extra for ECC.

Also, if your motherboard is not optimised for ECC, it may not run, or not perform at full speed.

Get the same brand with the same ratings without ECC.

It says "supports Dual channel DDR400", does this mean I can use DDR2 400? That ram is 240 pin, I've went to the Asus website and I can't find this information. I'm so confused.
Is this (184 pin, DDR400) http://www.cdw.com/shop/products/default.aspx?EDC=550250 what I need? I want the highest quality ram for that mobo.

I would go to the various ram manufactures sites and put your mobo in their ram matching search engine. Then check out the forums. Check your mobo site for recommendations and then go searching for price. That is the method I use to see what is recommended and what is working the best. It is time consuming, but if you are looking for the best performance possible, found it to be the best method.

I am currently using Corsair, but really like Crucial Ballistic too!!!!!!!!!!!!

 

Thanks Dogin, I did what you said and went to Corsairs website and searched the mobo there. Thanks for the tip, I'm a first time buyer.

 

In my opinion, the biggest mistake people make is purchasing new technology before they have matured. Cast your mind back to when Pentium 4's were first released and how slow they were.

DDR2 is no faster, and in some cases slower, and no where near twice as fast as the name suggest.

DDR2 has a great future (like serial ATA, PCI express etc), but at the moment it has drawbacks such as poor latency.

Stay with DDR for now, it's the far better option.
