I just got some new 256MB SDRAM for an old compaq that I'm trying to upgrade, so I put it in, and it recognizes it and it automatically updates my BIOS and everything. My computer then restarts and loads up normally, so far so good, then as soon as the WinXP splash screen is done my computer just keeps restarting and wont go to the login screen..

Any ideas how to fix this?

The problem is that I can't even get onto my desktop to run the program.. I cant even get to the login screen before it restarts..

I was told that the computer was proprietary(sp?) or whatever because its a Compaq Presario 5000 PIII

My friends just told me to get another cheap tower

That is why I recommended a bootable memory tester. Obviously, you have a computer to post with; you can create a bootable disk with it. Then you can run the test.
