    hi
i always see people saying they have 256 mb, 512 mb, 1 gb, 2 gb, but you never see people saying i have 768 mb ram or 1.5 gb of ram. why is this???

no reason really. you can have 1.5 or 768. however, these days 768 ram might not cut it with games and stuff, so you want more than that. and people round up to 2 gigs instead of having 1.5

Some people have 768mb and 1.5gb.. I suppose its because we start off with 512mb, upgrade with another stick of 512... Other people usually starting off with a pre-built like Dell, HP etc... Upgrade their 256MB of ram to 768 or they go from 1GB to 1.5gb i suppose...

As for why they do it.... Probably finacial reasons or, whatever they feel like getting

Actually, there is a good reason. With a lot more people running dual channel configurations these days, A LOT of motherboards are not stable (or at least not reccomended to run that way) with configurations of three sticks, which would be 3x 256, or 3x 512. So its better to have 2 like sticks, or 4, but not 3,

i have 2x256 and 1x512 pc3200, and will probably get another stick of 512, or perhaps a gig.

i have now 512 ram (2x256) pc 2700, would it be better to put 1.5 gig (2x256) and (2x512) all pc 2700 or 1gig (4x256) all pc 2700 or putting 1 gig (2x512), but pc 3200 or 1.5 gig (2x256) pc 2700 and (2x512) pc 3200. sorry if i say it wrong but i'm not american or british.

If you're looking for better performance while playing games, you may want to upgrade your video card first. Something like a GeForce 6600 GT. This will give you a much better performance boost than more RAM will. However, if this is not for gaming, disregard my suggestion. :)

Well it is for gaming, but the bad news is 180 $ is far to much especially since i just got this video card 8 months ago. which at that time it cost me 119$ or something like that so i'm looking at something cheap for now and that's ram.

Memory sticks come in those sizes. If you have a pair of sticks, it's better to have them matched as to size and type. But lots of machines will allow two different sizes of memory sticks, so it is possible for some machines to run on 768MB or 1.5GB of RAM. But it's not ideal.
