Does anyone know of any boot disk programs that will identify RAM characteristics?

To test RAM MemTest86+ is a "standard". If you Download the UBCD:

(well worth it imho) it has Aida (a diagnostic app that will give tons of info on all your hardware) plus many other exceptionally useful apps and many RAM testing/diagnostics prog. You can burn an image onto a CD and boot from that.

I just downloaded the UBCD last night, but have not had time to play with it.

Well done completely forgot that one and probably one of the best but they seemed to want it as a "Boot" option and I assumed before OS.

BIOS, by SPD/AUTO/DEFAULT, shows the memory settings, but not always right, can be changed/overclocked/underclocked.

The best way is to go to the memory maker site & search for the model #.
