    I am running ME, Duron 1000, 256 SD Ram, PC133, 168 Pin.

Tried putting in 2x512 SDRam. On starting page computer recognised new ram, but thru up the blue screen message halted "When initializing device SHELL:Cannot find or load required file krnl.386.exe. " Tried starting in safe mode, but received same message. Following the book, I back checked each new stick but continued to get same message. Back to original, then start up and I get multiple error windows of various DLLs not found or corruped. Ditto starting in Safe Mode. I then started up with os cd running, ditto for normal and safe so now I use ctrl and choose boot from CD, but I get a A:\> prompt.

    Any Ideas.

I do have a XP Pro OS cd would this be the time to install, I have backed to disc all files prior to my all thumbs attempt of ram upgrade. A possible solution?

    Thanks for any help

    Olaf

are you sure your computer can be upgraded to 1 gig? I'm no expert on this but if you computer was running well without the upgrade then it sounds like a ram issue

Olaf, correct me if I read your initial post wrong, but you already tried reinstalling your old RAM and running on that, right? If not, do that first. if that fixes your problem, we'll need to know as much as you can tell us about the differences between the old RAM and the new.

If you already tried that and it didn't help, we'll need to know as much as possible about your system and/or motherboard. We may not be able to help you get the upgrades working, but we might be able to get your computer back up and running on your old RAM.

Lastly, but very important, I would not attempt to install a different OS until you know for sure you have no hardware issues.
