I am thinking of upgrading my ram. I am running Corsair XMS5400C4 and am thinking of upgrading to Corsair TWIN2X2048-6400C4

The Corsair XMS5400C4 runs at 667 and the TWIN2X2048-6400C4 runs at 800. Is it worth the upgrade? It is about $35 for 2 gigs. I am running XP SP3 Media Center Edition.

I doubt you'd notice a difference. 133mhz difference in RAM speed is fairly small in the big picture. However, if you're into overclocking, you can likely get a better overclock from the faster RAM.

Thanks! What if I go to 4 gigs of ram?

If you're running a 32bit version of Windows (XP MCE is 32bit) then Windows will only use and address a max of 3.5gb of the 4gb. This is due to a design limitation of 32bit architecture and there's nothing you can do to change this. A 64bit operating system will use the full 4gb, and has no similar limit with RAM. I'm running XP Pro (32bit) with 4gb of DDR2-800 and it's F A S T. XP is only addressing 3.25gb of the 4gb, but I'm OK with it. You didn't mention how much RAM you currently have, but upgrading to 4gb is definitely a good idea, esp. with DDR2 memory being so inexpensive right now.
    :-D

    (I was perviously running 3gb DDR2-533; I had 2x1gb and 2x512mb in dual-channel and the 2x2gb DDR2-800 is noticeably faster)

I am currentlt running 2 gigs of Corsair XMS5400C4 with XP. This ram is no longer available. I have the RC of Windows 7 on another hard drive to check it out. I may upgrade to Windows seven after I evaluate it for a while.

Yeah- if you double your current memory to 4gb, you'll be happy. You may not notice a jump in speed, but everything should run smoother, and you'll be able to have more stuff going on and switching from task to task will be smoother; overall, the system will feel 'snappier'. You could buy another 2gb to go with the current 2gb. It doesn't necessarily have to be the exact same RAM; if you get a different brand with the same specs as your current RAM, you should be fine.

You'll like W7. I have the 64bit version installed on a quad core Intel Q9550 2.83ghz with 4 x 2gb DDR2-1066 and a striped RAID with 2 x 1tb SATA2 hard drives, and it freakin' smokes. Windows 7 is fast and not nearly as intrusive and cumbersome as Vista. I like it.

Since no one has mentioned it yet: You will not notice an upgrade in speed. The reason for that is that your motherboard can't run the memory unless all modules run at the same speed, so it forces them to adapt to each other. So if you mix DDR-800 and DDR-667, they will run at DDR-667... that way they can work together.

The increased amount of memory will more than make up for the lack of increase in speed.
