I want to upgrade the RAM on a Dell Dimension 4500S desktop. I've checked out a number of sites to see what I should be buying (hopefully locally rather than online), and am just getting more and more confused. Can anybody tell me if this would work with this machine?:

    Kingston ValueRAM 1GB (512MBx2) 333MHz DDR Non-ECC CL2.5 DIMM (Kit of 2)

    Thanks in advance

Okay here is the product info on your current system Dell™ Dimension™ 4500S.

Going to the Memory page we can see that it has 2 slots and can take upto 2Gb, but the rated RAM speed is upto 266MHz. In the vast majority of cases RAM will downclock from the 333 to 266MHz without a problem but you may have to change the MHz and or timings manually in BIOS to be certain. Can you get the same kit at 266MHz? I'm 99% sure the 333MHz would "automatically" clock down and work fine on the board but always good to "measure twice and cut once".

Half way down this page we have Adding Memory, which may be of use to you.
