Ramdom 2 second computer freezes

Hi, I built a budget pc 4 months ago with the following parts:

- Intel Core 2 Quad Q8300 2.5GHz Processor
- His Radeon HD 5770 1024MB Graphic Card
- BeQuiet Pure Power L7 530W Power Supply
- Gigabyte G41M Combo Intel G41 (socket 775) motherboard
- Corsair Value 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C9 1333MHz
- Hitachi Deskstar 7K1000.C 500GB SATA-II 16MB

Im not sure if it is hardware related but just recently I have experenced 1-2 second computer freezes which happen very randomly. The whole screen including the mouse become unusable for 1-2 seconds with the speekers scretching the current sounds playing and then the PC returns to its normal stable performance with no record that it ever happened. The freezes can be 10 minutes to a few days apart.

I have checked the cpu and memory task manager and no spikes... nothing.
I have check the bios temp's and nothing at all wrong temp wise.

All the drivers are up to date although i must admit that these issues seem to manifested themselfs with the most up to date ati driver for my card (yes it is the right driver). Although this might just be a coincidence.

The first 4 months were fine. So any ideas?

Maybe you're correct in thinking the graphics driver maybe behind this, it reads like there's a TDR problem waiting to trigger a BSOD.

I'd revert to an older driver, don't forget to clean out all remnants of the current driver first. It's very hit-and-miss finding the best driver.

 

Just to eliminate the most you can, try unplugging any USB item that you can when the problem starts. I had this very problem with a KVM switch, I've had other issues with a combination of USB items plugged in.
