    Hello,
I ran the run me first and got all the logs I could.
I was having the popup rouges which I find out are fake antivirus.
I thought I had them with Malwarebytes and it kept coming back. This all started about 2 weeks ago and I have just gotten time to try and finish fixing it.
When I ran "SAS" first it found Trojan Agent / Gen-RougeAV and had 3 items in the list. When I finished up with SAS, on reboot it had a black screen "use last known good configuration". I rebooted into normal windows startup and no programs would open. It would open the window that asks you to choose a program. I tried system restore which didn't work.
I don't have the SAS log because by the time I figured out how to fix the EXE problem, I uninstalled SAS and didn't get the log.
I do have all other logs attached.

Oh yes, I had to turn off my AVG 9.0 antivirus to run some of the scans and after I turned them back on and rebooted the icon is no longer in the bottom right. Just wonder why and wanted to ensure I am protected. The software says it is active.

My machine seems to be running fine right now. I just wanted you guys to have a look and see if it is clean. It seemed evertime I thought I had these removed it came back with a new name.

It started as XP internet security 2010 , came back as xp antimalware , then came back as xp internet something, not sure I have all the names right.

Thanks so much for your incredible website. You guys are the best.
    Dan

add a program to your start up folder

Now we need to use ComboFix
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    • If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box. Ensure you scroll down to select ALL the lines:
    Code:
    KILLALL::

    Driver::
    wgtotwfo
    diskchk

    DirLook::
    C:\Documents and Settings\NetworkService\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\DOMStore\2QZDEE24

    File::
    c:\windows\system32\diskchk.sys
    C:\Documents and Settings\Compaq_Owner\Local Settings\Application Data\3367619789
    C:\Documents and Settings\Compaq_Owner\Local Settings\Application Data\jrNYi6G
    C:\Documents and Settings\Compaq_Owner\Local Settings\Application Data\K5OjaYgo0v
    C:\Documents and Settings\Compaq_Owner\Local Settings\Application Data\wcba6o6jV8
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\1802800645
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\3367619789
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\jrNYi6G
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\K5OjaYgo0v
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\olV3RohQ
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\wcba6o6jV8
    C:\Documents and Settings\Compaq_Owner\Templates\3367619789
    C:\Documents and Settings\Compaq_Owner\Templates\jrNYi6G
    C:\Documents and Settings\Compaq_Owner\Templates\wcba6o6jV8
    C:\Documents and Settings\NetworkService\Local Settings\Application Data\jrNYi6G
    C:\Documents and Settings\NetworkService\Local Settings\Application Data\K5OjaYgo0v
    C:\Documents and Settings\NetworkService\Local Settings\Application Data\olV3RohQ

    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe

      http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/CFScriptB-4.gif

    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below

    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.

    Thanks for the reply Kestrel13.

I haven't had a chance to run the fix yet. I am at work and will do it when I get home.
I may be getting the cart before the horse, but I was reading the protecting yourself thread and was wondering. Does Windows XP home edition running SP3 need a firewall.
For some reason I thought it was built in to windows now. After reading it says windows isn't very good and i need to use another one.
So do I need to disable one on this machine and install one from the list?

Thanks, I will post the logs when I get home in a few hours.

You can discuss firewalls in the software forum. But let's not do this until we have made some progress here. Yes ideally you should be using a third party firewall. But do not install one until you have run my fix and we have brought this thread to a close. :)

    Most welcome. :)

Okay I missed one file only from my fix, so let's use windows explorer to locate and delete the below bold file:

If it goes away quietly and does not reappear after a reboot, then you are good to follow the final steps listed here:

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we used Pocket Killbox during your cleanup, do the below
      • Run Pocket Killbox and select File, Cleanup, Delete All Backups
    3. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures in step 3 the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

Well I have to tell you Kestrel.

You are the bomb. the file deleted quietly and the machine is running great now.
I am currently working on the prevention thread and have finished all of your instructions.

I cannot express with a keyboard how much I appreciate your help.

All I can say is THANK U THANK U THANK U ,, it seems it has been defeated and isn't remanifesting itself after I think I removed it like it was doing for days.

Thanks again and keep up the great work.

This is the greatest website ever and I have used you guys in the past a few years ago with the same superior results.
