Important Notice: A new version of SUPERAntiSpyware is available.
    • Please uninstall your current version (this is necessary).
    • Then download this SUPERAntiSpyware
    • Install this new version. It may tell you that you need to reboot to complete the installation. You must reboot at this time.
    • After the reboot, run SUPERAntiSpyware and immediately click the Check for Updates button to get more updates for the database.
    • Now run a new full scan of your system. And attach this log later.

    What is this file?

    C:\Documents and Settings\Topher\My Documents\mfvirus.csv

    Delete this folder.
    c:\documents and settings\Mom\Local Settings\Application Data\Viewpoint

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.

Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

Go to TDSSKiller and Download TDSSKiller.zip to your Desktop

    • Extract its contents to your Desktop so that you have TDSSKiller.exe directly on your Desktop and not in any subfolder of the Desktop.
    • Now double click the TDSSkiller.exe file to run it ( if using Vista or Windows 7 do not double click on it but rather, right click and select Run As Administrartor.
    • Allow the application to run and a window will open showing that it is TDSSkiller from Kaspersky
    • Click Start scan
    • It will run rather quickly and will notify you of whether anything is found or not.
    • Follow the instructions to delete/quarantine if asks you what to do when if finds something.
Whether an infection is found or not, a log file should be created on your C: drive ( or whatever drive you boot from) in the root folder named something like TDSSKiller.2.1.1_27.12.2009_14.17.04_log.txt which is based on the program version # and date and time run. Please attach this log to your next reply. (See: HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post )

Please also download MBRCheck to your desktop

    • Double click MBRCheck.exe to run (vista and Win 7 right click and select Run as Administrator)
    • It will show a Black screen with some data on it
    • Right click on the screen and select > Select All
    • Press Control+C
    • Open a notepad and press Control+V
    • now please ATTACH that report to this thread

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.

Let us know of any problems you may have encountered with the above instructions and also let me know how things are running now!

    Kestrel13!,

    Awesome thanks!

Downloaded new version of SuperAntiSpyware, ran scan, didn't come back with anything, attached log.

mfvirus.csv was the log from the AVG scan I ran that uncovered the trojan problem before I even came on here and did any of the steps you guys recommended. That was how I was able to find that I had a malware problem. If you want I'll attach it to another post, but it's nothing shady. I named it that so I could remember which file it was (MF standing for..well you know.)

    Deleted the view point folder.

Ran the fixME.reg file and came back successful.

TDSKiller came back with 2 findings: One was a rootkit which it cleaned, the other was a suspicious file (sptd.sys) that it didn't take any action one.

MBR and MGlogs did their thing. All logs attached.

Things seem to be running even better now, but let me know if you see anything else I might need to address. Also I had a few questions about future protection. I've downloaded avast and opted for the max protect plan from them. I know on your guys thread for protecting you computer you guys recommend a Anti-Virus, a firewall, and AntiSpyware Program to watch over the computer. Now with the Avast Maximum Protection comes with a firewall. So should I just go with this or add on one of the ones you recommend on the thread (and should I turn of the Windows Firewall so it doesn't clash with Avast?)? And should I opt for SuperAntiSpyware's real time protection, or once again, is that redundant since I have the Avast Max Protect?

Thank you once again, it's really awesome what you guys are doing here!

    You're welcome!

    Gotya! :-D

Another remains, you can delete that too:

    • C:\Documents and Settings\LocalService\Local Settings\Application Data\viewpoint

Good. No, not seeing anything else to take care of now.

Stick with avast's firewall as it includes one.
Yes. If avast does not automatically do this for you.
Just keep the freeware versions of SUPERantispyware and Malware Bytes. :)

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Go back to step 6 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
