    I really figured I would have this thing done with by the time I did the ol' "Read and Run First" routine. Unfortunately, I'm not so lucky.

    The only thing I've noticed is that this happens when I'm running multiple programs. I thought it was WMP, but it keeps happening regardless of what I'm doing. The frequency is about two or three times an hour, but that might just be how often I've opened "too many" programs. The whole interface basically screeches to a stop: I can actually watch it happen. First crap gets really laggy, and then within ten seconds I can't do anything but move my mouse around for no reason at all. No response to keyboard, no ctrl+alt+del, nothing. All I can do is hit the hard reset button on the tower. And this has gone on all day.

    I wouldn't rule anything out, since I've done the entire malware thing and come up with (almost) nothing--see the logs. Could it be that I've somehow screwed up a system file, or a hardware issue? ONE time when it froze, the motherboard just let out a long "beep" tone that lasted until I hit the reset button. What the heck is going on?

    For the record, I think I've got it worked out. A few days ago I deleted all this extra program crap ATI wanted me to have with my new gfx driver update. I didn't want that stuff so I uninstalled it through CCleaner, but must've taken some critical stuff with it? Anyways, on a hunch I reinstalled the driver (and only the driver this time), and have yet to lock up again.

    Well let's check your logs anyway. For a start off I notice that you didn't have MBAM fix what it found! You need to ensure that you do unless you already have now. Attach the log after doing so.

    Could you also please attach the log from running SUPERantispyware, retrievable in the below location:

    • C:\Documents and Settings\Draw7Seven\Application Data\SUPERAntiSpyware.com\SUPERAntiSpyware\Logs\SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log - 04-03-2009 - 16-21-53.log

    Then in the meantime I shall review your logs. Please be patient during this time.

    Thanks
    Kes

    Hi there--if you're still with us, here's a fix:

    1) Please go to Add/Remove programs and uninstall the below old versions of Java:

    • J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 11
    • J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
    • J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 9
    • Java(TM) 6 Update 2
    • Java(TM) 6 Update 3
    • Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 1

    2) Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

    Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    After clicking Fix exit HJT.

    3) Empty temporary files from this directory:

    • C:\WINDOWS\TEMP

    4) Now we need to use ComboFix to remove an orphaned service.
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
    • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below code box into it
    (make sure you scroll all the way down in the code box to get all lines selected ):
    Code:

    KILLALL::

    Drivers::
    LDAVService

    File::
    c:\program files\LANDesk\LDClient\antivirus\avservice.exe

    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe

    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below

    Note:

    Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

    5) Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this and also attach the log from Combofix.

    6) Let us know of any problems you may have encountered with the above instructions and also let me know how things are running now.
