hey guys, just ive had this problem for a while now and i thought i would post it up and try and get some help for it. So pretty much much, one day a while a go my internet speed started to get slightly slower THEN my internet started disconnecting and reconnecting. What happens is sometimes my internet will disconnect randomly, it will reconnect straight away usually but sometimes it stays down for a while. It's so random, it may happen once a day, 5 times a day, sometimes not for a day. My internet speed has also decreased and it is getting quite annoying with both problems, the internet has not slowed down to the point where you cant use it. it's fine but it is slower than usual and i know it. All i know at the moment is when my internet disconnects, the internet symbol on my taskbar with the two screens and the light blue thing on it will still be there but while it is disconnected that light blue round thing will disappear and when it reconnects it will come back.

thanks guys, i really would appreciate help and for someone to give me some advice to help me fix this problem.

    A couple of Qs
    what OS are you using
Are you using wireless or LAN
    make and model of modem
If wireless is it secured with password

Also, check with your provider about possible changes in your area or line problems specific to your connection.

I am running windows vista 64 bit
I am running off lan off the router/modem
    modem is a D-link 502T

also, could it be a problem with the router, a while a go it got kind of blown up but fixed, now one of the ports doesnt work?

    Hi

    Things to try are:

    1. Plug the Modem/Router directly into the MAIN phone/cable socket and dont use any extentions.
    2. Change the cables from phone/cable socket and also use a different cat5e cable to test if they are faulty.
    3. If using ADSL, unplug all phones and just have the modem/router plugged in with one Filter, test speed and then change the filter to another one and test speed again, maybe faulty DSL Filter.
    4. If router was faulty and fixed then try a different router as once faulty its likely to be the cause, especially as ports are now failing,

Reason I mention check cableing is that I have been having some disconnections and slow speeds, so decided today to spend some time checking all cabling and I was using a phone extention cable as the ones the ISPs provisd are only 1.5m and I needed 5m, but decided against a long phone extention and moved the router/modem and bought a 5m Cat6 cable and hooked those up and gained 1.4mbit extra speed.
