I checked search and couldnt find anything that helps.

I just got a brand new computer and it's been randomly locking up on me. No real rhyme or reason, i've downloaded speedfan and it locks up at different temps. I've checked my event viewer and found nothing that really seemed off. I have absolutely no idea what's wrong with it.

I'm not sure what info you guys need so just ask and ill give.

This could be any number of faults so really require the specs of com thereby you will recieve a lot more help, as at the moment with no specs other Geeks are scratching their heads as well :) Check all power connections and make sure they are all sitting tightly.

what temps and voltages does speedfan give you...post those back here...best if you use your favorite screen capture program and attach the pic

Could be a number of things: virus/malware, bad RAM, flaky CPU, screwy video card, bad hard drive, even a bad network card or modem can make a PC act weird and lock up at random. I don't think it's temp related 'cuz of what you mentioned in your previous post. Might even be the power supply. Recently, a friend's PC was also locking up at random so I ran a hard drive diagnostic (DLG 'cuz it was a Western Digital hard drive) and it reported that the drive had a failing read/write head; meaning that it wasn't dead, but it was dying and on it's way to a silicon graveyard. We replaced the drive and now it's fine: not one lock up in 2 weeks.... find out who makes your hard drive and go to their web site and download and run their diag tool. All the major hard drive manufacturers have these free diag utils for download...

If it is brand new I'd be taking it back to whereever you bought it for a refund - or at the very least phone their technical support.

I'm a bit curious about CPU speeds, RAM size, HDD size, speed and manufacturer amongst other things. I've done the tech support thing and now have a small business doing repairs and I've found a few hardware configs that just don't want to work. Sometimes changing the right item even when nothing is failing will clear up a lot of problems. Check the HDD as suggested, if it is failing time to excersize your rights under the warantee. If the HDD shows good maybe try changing out memory if you have any extra to try.

I can't wait until Windows Vista is released to the public, it would tell you exactly what is causing your lockups.

 Hi. I would be inclined to try doing a system restore using the mfr's method and see what you get. Some mfr's provide a set of cd's for this. Others, like HP, run their system restore from a partition on the hard drive. Let us know what you get.
