    Hi,

Hope someone can help because im lost on this one

I recently built an Ivybridge machine specs to follow, was working fine for a few days, then all of a sudden started getting random reboots but only during games, pc runs fine normally, run a game and then it just decides to reboot.

I dont get any blue screens at all and ive not changed any bios settings from defaults either.

Also i formatted the hard drive and fresh installed windows 7 as part of the install.

The only thing in the Event Viewer is a Kernel Power error but from what ive read up thats just a basic error it throws up when it cant find anything specific.

    Powercool 650W PSU
    ASRock Z77 Pro4 Motherboard
    I5 3570K
    16Gb Corsair Vengeance LP Ram
    EVGA Nvidia 560 GT
Western Digital Caviar Green 1TB Sata2 HDD (couldnt afford to replace that at present)

Now ive ran FuMark for 15mins with the Xtreme Burn in enabled, and it was absolutely fine, GPU load was 99% for 15 mins, highest temp it got to was 79c.

Im just about to run memtest as well to see if that brings anything up and will post results

    Any help is appreciated

Welcome to the forum gambe:) Random reboots are one of the hardest things to track down so it will require some work and patience.

Could you describe the reboot as best you can, does the computer reboot and start loading windows again, does the screen lockup or show any symptoms before hand, does the computer actually shutdown for second, lights fans hard drive activity ect?

First Update all your drivers from their respective manufacturer website especially your video card driver and motherboard drivers, check the motherboard bios page for a bios update that lists something similar to your problem and update as necessary,go to device manager are there any yellow exclamation marks or red crosses?

Follow this to try and get a bluescreen and minidump file if you do attach the minidump to your next post,be sure to disable automatically restart following the instructions.

Next I'd health check the video system and cpu, to test the video card stop using furmark and download the latest version of futuremark or 3dmark and run it in loops for at least a hour at a time to see if it crashes,it should crash if gaming is the problem.

Once you've tested the ram test the cpu, download these two programs, run intel burn at the maximum stress while monitoring your temps with speedfan, post your gflop score, your idle cpu temperature and you 1 hour after full load temperature,if your cpu is stable we'll know.

I'll leave it there for now post your finding and again welcome.:)
