Random Restarts

Hello, as of late I've been having some trouble with my fiancee's computer and I was hoping you guys would be able to help.

Starting about 4 weeks ago, her computer randomly restarts. There does not appear to be any consisten interval between the restarts, or any warning signs given before it does. I should also note that no changes had been made to the hardware prior to the beginning of this issue.

My first inclination was to believe this was a virus, as it coincided with a recent worm that reportedly had symptoms of causing reboots.

In following the guide posted in the spyware specific section, about how to remove the majority of spyware/virus problems I encountered some issues. First, while in safe mode the computer rebooted, twice. Secondly, I found myself unable to run Bitdefender or Rav antivirus because the dialog allowing for the installation of the activex controls never showed themselves, despite the fact that I am absolutely positive she does indeed have Service Pack2.

Also, according McAfee, the worm which I assumed she had contracted .exe file was not where it purportedly would have been.

As of now, I'm rather stumped and any advice would be greatly appreciated.
