    Hi Guys

First time poster and the thread for how to post a support request is down so I hope I'm doing this right.

PC keeps switching itself flat off when playing certain games. For example L4D runs on full specs for hours with no issue, but Modern Warfare 2 on the reccommended settings will only go for an hour before the problem occurs. Any ideas?

GeForce 9800 GTX+ Dark Knight Edition
    4gb Kingston DDR2-800

    Welcome to majorgeeks.com

I would guess it is a BSOD. Right click on my computer and click properties. Click on the advanced tab and then on settings under startup and recovery. Under System Failure, uncheck automatically restart. Now, try and re-create the conditions when your problem occurs and see if you get a blue screen.

A good way to test for heat or hardware issues is to run a burn-in test. http://majorgeeks.com/Passmark_BurnInTest_Standard_d4234.html

Same shutdown I'm afraid. Box unticked but still a complete switch off without warning.

Well, we have to use the process of elimination.

Burn-in test passed, plus you have no problem with L4D2, so it isn't a heat issue.
Burn-in test passed, plus you have no problem with L4D2 therefore it shouldn't be a hardware problem.
No BSOD, so it probably is not a Windows problem.

I would say it is a Modern Warfare 2 problem. You should contact MW2 support and see if this is a well know problem. I can't go to the site right now cause I am on limited bandwidth and they have a flash movie. http://www.google.com/search?rlz=1C1GGLS_enUS310US310&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=modern+warfare+2

    Bizarre isn't it?

The only two games I've had an issue with are (funnily enough) COD MW1 and occasionly with GTA 4 when running at the highest specs.

Just can't figure this one out...

It could be your power supply going out or a motherboard problem. How many watts is your power supply?
