Random systemcrashes (BSOD)

    Hiya everyone!

specs: Windows 7 64 home premium
    HD: samsung 840 pro SSD
    Mobo: Asus P8Z77-m pro
CPU: Intel i5 3570K (no OC)
    VGA: Asus HD7850 DC2-2GD5
    PSU: Corsair TX 650
RAM: Corsair Vengeance LP 8GB DDR3 (1600 Mhz)
So my pc has been suffering from BSOD's for a while now. Until y'day it used to happen everytime I booted my pc for the first time of the day, so I had to restart it to get it going. It also couldn't properly use the restart option in windows as it always got stuck when the reboot started (no bsod, just blanc screen).
Unfortunately I don't have any memory dumps from those events as I had to format my pc y'day.
Y'day I installed a new Samsung 840 Pro SSD, with a clean install of windows 7 home premium on it. For the moment no other harddrives are installed, as there was a problem during the final fase of the format, which in the end got resolved with disconnecting my HD's (windows couldn't start, just kept on looping). Only an extern drive was connected (Toshiba STOR.E Partner 500gb USB3).
Y'day everything ran perfect, could use the restart, no crashes. This morning it booted up fine aswell, however about 1 min after booting, while opening Firefox it got a BSOD again.
The only software installed so far is Avast antivirus and Firefox.

The following is the memory dump file gotten from the windows Debugging tool:

    <snip>

I really hope someone can see anything in this that might help me find out what the problem can be!

    Thanks in advance,
    Jimenie

Can you copy the *.dmp file to your Desktop, zip it and attach it please.

  3. Jimenie

    Cheers for the fast replies!
However, the .dmp file that got created is a MEMORY.dmp, about 420mb in size. Even zipped it's still 79mb, way to big to attach in other words.
I have opened Bluescreenview, but that only seems to look at the minidump, which wasn't created on that last BSOD. I've changed the log to minidump now, so when (or if, because so far she's behaving) I'll be able to pass on that info.
If I am allowed I'll copy the code from the MEMORY.dmp again, if that can be helpful.

    Thanks in advance,
    Jimenie

Upload the zipped MEMORY.DMP to somewhere like Skydrive, ensure it's publicly accessible and post the link back here.

Downloaded fine but I'm having problems getting the data from it :(

About all I can guess from what do I see is that an ASUS utility may be involved, uninstall all ASUS utilities during testing.

Set the system to save minidumps.

Turn on Driver Verifier (read this carefully - it may cause Windows to fail to load - you need to know how to undo it!).

Once you have a minidump saved, zip and attach it.

Cheers for the help so far!
I've attached a zip with a minidump from a BSOD that I've gotten when I booted my pc 10 mins ago.
I'll do the driver verifier procedure tomorrow evening, as I've read it has to run for at least 24h, which is annoying as I'm sleeping in the same room.
Got no ASUS related software installed anymore. Only the drivers for my mobo and GPU, which are both manufactured by ASUS. Are those save to keep for the moment? Haven't uninstalled them yet as my pc will be kind of useless without drivers I guess :)

This is a new BSOD minidump that I've gotten this morning. I just started up firefox when it occured.

My guess is either firmware of the SSD or video card (driver?). Sorry doesn't seem obvious to me.

I don't see anything obvious here; a few drivers that might need updating and the possibility that it's the antivirus software running interference.

Given that the machine has BSOD history prior to the SSD being fitted, there's a chance that some hardware defect is behind the problems, the BSOD type isn't really hardware -related though. More likely to be some common factor like a software/driver/'tweak' that's the same across the installs (assuming the causes are the same).

Check for an update to Avast from within the main program window; I've seen 2 minor program updates in the last 3 days. A more sensible troubleshooting method may be to clear out Avast completely (use their tool as well) and install MSE during testing.

Update to the latest ATI/AMD WHQL driver from the AMD site.

Update the network card driver, it should be here: http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads...5&Level=5&Conn=4&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false#1

To give us further data to work with, please carefully read and follow the BSOD Sticky here and attach the required zip file back here, hopefully, there'll be further clues ;)

As before, thanks for the help so far!
Attached are the zipped files you requested + the latest minidump from booting this evening.
Removed Avast, and installed MSE and the new drivers from AMD and Realtek.
Since y'day she refuses to restart properly again btw. When I hit restart, she shuts down, restarts, but instead of booting, I just hear all my fans going full speed and nothing on screen, don't get POST beep, no bios screen.

    Cheers,
    Jimenie

Now it's sounding much more like a hardware issue, your description reads like it isn't reaching the BIOS graphics/hardware detection properly.

Get into the BIOS when you can and set it to defaults for everything, save and reboot it 2x. Shut it down then try a cold start or two to check for behaviour differences.

If no improvement, you'll need to do a full stripdown and rebuild with just the basics on the testbench to try to work out where the problem lies. Also check online for similar problems with the same 'board.

Makes me think memory related. Have you tested the memory yet? http://www.memtest.org/
Would also explain the randomness of the crashes.

Hiya, didn't have time to do anything y'day, but just from quickly booting, I've netted the next catch of minidumps (see attachments).
I did what you said, set everything to default in BIOS. 2 things to remark: I can't get in to advanced mode. That is, I got the permission, but when it enters advanced it just freezes. I see the header, a gray block and my mousepointer, but nothing happens after that.
Secondly, the first reboot after defaulting everything ended again in fans going full mode and pc getting stuck before BIOS. After that one I've tried to restart a couple of times more and now it seems to work. I'm aware that this could be coincidence, but you never know :)
I'll see if anything has changed tonight after a cold start. If not I'll give thisisu's memtest a go.

    Cheers,
    Jimenie

It's all pointing towards a piece of hardware that's either not responding fast enough or causing an error within the first 4 minutes of booting into Windows. That should rule out the drives and all Windows/drivers but little else.

I'm inclined towards BIOS/motherboard/CPU and possibly PSU. If a complete stripdown and careful rebuild doesn't alter the problem at all, I think you'd need to start component swapping to try to work out where the fault lies.
