Ransomware Took Control Of User's System And We Need To Make Sure It's Gone

Last week some ransomware took control of this user's system. Someone was physically interacting with the system remotely. (I didn't write down the name of the ransomware, sorry!)

We disconnected the system from the network and ran RogueKiller and MalwareBytes and it has been clean until today. I installed RansomFree on the system as well.

This morning, Webroot reported and successfully quarantined WINLGN.EXE, Trojan.Dropper.Gen.

The system has been fine since then, but I want to make sure this system is totally clean and it can't be taken over again.

Note: Some of the applications flagged bomgar-scc.exe. That's the remote control software we use, so don't worry about anything mentioning Bomgar.

    Thank you so much!

Please remove everything that RogueKiller found. Reboot and rescan with RogueKiller and also attach the log from running Hitman.

    I'll do that, thanks.

I forgot to mention - Hitman crashes every time I hit the option to save the logs. Any workaround known for that?

Can you copy the log results to notepad and attach that?

OK, I removed what RogueKiller found. I was able to save the Hitman log this time.

Are you able to have Hitman remove the items under Malware?

Yes. Hitman quarantined the items successfully and I rebooted the computer like it said. Good to go?

Just to make sure, please rerun RogueKiller and Hitman and attach the new logs.

Attached. RogueKiller flagged a copy of MalwareBytes that is installed with the Continuum Managed Services Agent, so I think that's a false positive. I don't know about the TrueSight.sys that Hitman flagged.

    You're logs are clean.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
    2. Re-enable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it in step 4 of the READ & RUN ME.
    3. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.
    4. If running Vista, Win 7 or Win 8 or 10, it is time to make sure you have re-enabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Now go to the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click ( if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 or 10 Right Click and Run As Administrator ) on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    6. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    7. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
