Can we have a longer edit timer please 10min timer seems kinda ridiculous

All of the other fourms i go to do not have a timer.

Can any body explain way there is a timer on the posting edit.

Or at lest increase the edit timer to 30mins.

    No.
This was put in place because people would answer with a for shite answer and then would edit in later the correct information.
It forces me, at least, to usually re-read my answer before posting to correct flaws, either grammatical or logic, and to look at it to make sure it is readable.

It has to do with the quality of information presented here.

Take your time and do it right the first time.;)

Construct your post right first time!

NO the timer will not be changed as in the past and likely now some users will post information and then if they are wrong they would edit this to hide their mistake or make others that follow with correct replies look like they copied, so we added this timeline to show warts and all.

We are not other forums, we have some standards we follow that actually show in many areas of computing circles (microsoft being one, hence the amount of Microsoft MVPs on this forum) that we have a high standard of information, allowing users to edit ad-hoc shows that the user has finally found the correct info on google!! :major

I went back and re-read this and I see Administrators get to edit with no tracks.rolleyes

(I guess that's a perk for all the hard work otherwise done.;):-D:major)

And a lot of other sites don't have an edit button because you can't edit at all.
    Stuck with what you wrote.
I am fine with the 10 minutes here.

Sadly we do as we can edit past the 10min limit but it actually shows we have edited by an edit time. I tend to if I edit past 10mins add why I have done said edit and in almost all occasions they are in none tech threads.

I apprieciate the comments hrlow2 as you have been here a long time and have seen why we added this limit, cheers.

@ Goldenskull:- ...Also, that's what the 'Preview Post' button is for, <duhr!!>rolleyes

    +1 here.

I use the preview post a lot, I actually like the timer, even though it has caught me by just a couple of minutes in the past, but then all you have to do is make a new post with the correction or extra info.
I think it keeps things clean and clear.

Funny thing is, I often use the preview and then still have to edit lol

If you edit a reply within a few seconds of posting and nobody has read it, replied to it, etc. it will not show you edited the post. Even for regular users.

I rarely compose my relies in the reply box, it's too small, I know I can expand it but why bother. I copy the post I want to reply to off the page (or use quote then copy if needed) then paste it to my preferred editor
I compose my reply, run a spillchecque, read the original post again then read my reply again to see if it is easy for others to understand.
Paste it in the reply box and preview it, then post it.
I still get the occasional OHNO moment but I usually see it before 10 minutes

The edit lockdown feature is also a good way to stop return>edit spammers.
These ******* post a relevant reply (sometimes copied) which might be checked by a member or Mods but is seen as ok, the spammer returns later to edit the post and add a spam link.
But not here they don't :-D

I doubt you can use that as an excuse Oma after all the time you have lived in Canada.
    Is your third language French?

Van het zien van uw berichten op hier heb je uitstekende engels

Third language is Spanish, learned that from my hubby (Spain) and we speak that at home. Since my retirement I don't use English that much anymore and am starting to lose it. Funny thing is that now Dutch words are coming back easier while before I really had trouble remembering them.

Thanks for the compliment Bill. Your Dutch is excellent!

In high school, almost 6 decades ago we had to learn English, Dutch, French and German for 4 years. It was compulsory. No choice in subjects.

It takes me ages to reply to a post and it's gotten worse over the last few years. :cry

I have lived in Belgium for over 20 years now but i still have trouble with accents and certain words that sound the same to the untrained ear.

Is that something like a flood insurance payment?

Is the OHNO moment when you find yourself racing in circles? (sorry, I'm from the Seattle area LOL)

Yeah, understand that. Dutch is a difficult language. It's also those darn dialects that change from town to town even less than 10 miles apart from each other.

Wow! You must be very proud of your daughter and rightly so!
