raptor sata and asus k8v-x unstable

bios flashed 1007. latest via 4in1 drivers . no irq conflicts. latest drivers for radeon 9800 pro and creative audigy platinum. system ran before with xp on ide no probs. xp will crash and chkdsk. chkdsk wont run do to missing files. chkdsk from xp repair in cprompt finds unrepairable damage. windows wont even format because of damaged master boot sector. i end up using other dos based util like drive scrubber or wd util to overwrite . and weeee start all over again to last 5 mins to week

this is the first time for me installing sata, little things could help. like driver issues, order of driver insallation with service pack 2 . for one sata do i need raid controller drivers installed or is via 4in1 hyperon enough on 8237 south ? any suggestions would be most appreciated . bios settings? thanx.
