Hi there Geeks, I have had a good read at most of the posts on this great forum and found it to be one of the most helpful and useful one of its kind. Good work!

    And now to my problem.

Everytime i start up my pc it gets to the select account page and i continue to enter password. Its when i hit continue that it loads for a second and then re-boots!

So i took out the other (kids) account and thought that if it loads straight to the desktop then the problem would go, but nope! Evertime i start up it shows desktop for a couple secs then reboots. Sometimes it takes around 8 reboots before it works. On the other hand it doesnt happen sometimes(very, very rarely).

I have done checks using AVG, Spybot, Ad-Adaware, Registry Cleanup and checked my start up menu for anything suspicious but nothing.

Does anyone recognise this problem or know of a way to fix it?

Thanks in advance for any help.:)

If it's up and running, 1) go to event viewer (under administrative tools) and see what is there under system and applications. Look for eror messages. 2) Go to my computer (right click) / advanced and startup and recovery .... uncheck reboot on errors. This will give you the dreaded BSOD on the next error ....need to copy it all down and post it.
If you have your xp cd, put it in the drive and exit the setup screen, go to run type "sfc /scannow" (without qoutes and note the space after the c) and let it run (checks that installation files are not corrupted).
Last resort is to do a repair installation.
Post back system info (os/updates and ram --all on first page of properties if you right click my computer).

Ok i got the BSOD error reading technical info.

    *** STOP: OXOOOOOO8E (OXCOOOO1D, OXF85EOEED, OXF8DOCC2C, OXOOOOOOOO)

    ***cmuda.sys - Address F85EOEED base at F8542000, DateStamp 43a1O5d7

That is the technical info if that helps. I hope you didnt want the whole message because that would be a bit of a pain considering it is a very lot of pencil to paper lol.

I dont have my own xp cd i'm afraid but shall have one soon.

    Windows XP Pro
    Version 2002
    Service Pack 2

    AMD Athlon
    858MHz, 576MB of RAM

    Hope that helps.

    cmuda.sys is for your C-Media sound card/chip.

Try unchecking it from startup (Start, run and type in msconfig then Startup tab).

I checked the startup and the cmud.sys is not there. Although i did notice that there was ctfmon.exe and that is trojan i'm sure so i unchecked it.

The only ones in the start up are Gear311T which is my wireless network card i pressume, and there is AVG, zlclient(zonealarm) and dumprep which i think is something to do with memory dumps.

I do have C-Media Audio drivers installed. It is in my add/remove prog's page.

You can try uninstalling C-Media from Add/Remove, then installing the latest drivers again.

I'd also check Device Manager for any errors.

And as theefool stated, ctfmon.exe isn't a trojan. It's not vital to leave at Startup, but it's not the culprit either.
