Re: Do you have to be Psychic to use Ubuntu ?

Hi Guys, like others, I am a complete Linux Noobe. I am going to give Ubuntu a try out. I have partitioned my HD with Partition Magic. Now, if I boot using the Ubuntu cd will it allow me to install it onto the 50 gig partition, or will it just go straight to the C:\ drive to install. I want to make sure it does not interfer with my windows xp on the C:\ drive. Sorry to go on a bit. Look forward to hearing your replys.

if i were to give u any advice i'd say if ur brand new to linux not to start with ubuntu

i tried that and it DID not work out

i'd advise using something like PClinuxOS2007 which is what i have or something like freespire2.0

Ubuntu is actually pretty easy to use. I just recomend reading about it first from your local library or some online new2linux style of site. It's really simple once you get into it.

If you want to give it a test run you can just get a LinuxLive CD.

 

The 'Nix versions I have tried have been very gentle on the Win XP versions installed on the hard drive. If you pay a bit of attention, you should get it installed in dual boot mode without much, if any trouble.


As N80 said, try the Live CD first. Linux is a great OS. But it has a learning curve that still baffles me...
