    Hi Kestrral13!,

    Well, after working with this computer for a few hours hands on, it appears that the computer still has numerous infections or corrupted files. IE Explorer is corrupted and is not listed in ADD and REMOVE PROGRAMS. (I was going to remove and re-install...) Webcake has also returned.

    I have run the scans with RK, TDS, Malbytes, Hitman and MGLogs and have attached them to this email.

    Please let me know what you think...

    Thanks again for your assistance!
    Ed

    Uninstall the below softwares!

    • RegWork
    • Search Protect by conduit
    • SearchDonkey
    • WebCake 3.00

    Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

    Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    • R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://start.sweetpacks.com/?src=10&st=12&crg=3.5000006.10042&barid={92416DC2-DBAC-11E2-ACA2-0026B9967921}
    • R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://start.sweetpacks.com/?src=10&st=12&crg=3.5000006.10042&barid={92416DC2-DBAC-11E2-ACA2-0026B9967921}
    • O2 - BHO: WebCake Layers - {2A5A2A90-3B30-4E6E-A955-2F232C6EF517} - C:\Program Files\WebCake\WebCakeIEClient.dll
    • O2 - BHO: SearchDonkey - {44ed99e2-16a6-4b89-80d6-5b21cf42e78b} - C:\Program Files\SearchDonkey\IE\common.dll
    • O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [WebCake Desktop] "C:\Users\FRANKO\AppData\Roaming\WebCake\WebCakeDesktop.exe"
    • O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Browser Infrastructure Helper] C:\Users\FRANKO\AppData\Local\Smartbar\Application\QuickShare.exe startup
    • O23 - Service: Search Protect by Conduit Updater (CltMngSvc) - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\SearchProtect\bin\CltMngSvc.exe (file missing)
    • O23 - Service: WebCake Desktop Updater - WebCake LLC - C:\Program Files\WebCake\WebCakeDesktop.Updater.exe
    After clicking Fix exit HJT.

    http://img805.imageshack.us/img805/9659/rktigzy.gif Fix items using RogueKiller.

    Double-click RogueKiller.exe to run. (Vista/7 right-click and select Run as Administrator)
    When it opens, press the Scan button
    Now click the Registry tab and locate these 3 detections:

    • [RUN][SUSP PATH] HKCU\[...]\Run : WebCake Desktop ("C:\Users\FRANKO\AppData\Roaming\WebCake\WebCakeDesktop.exe" [7]) -> FOUND
    • [RUN][SUSP PATH] HKCU\[...]\Run : Browser Infrastructure Helper (C:\Users\FRANKO\AppData\Local\Smartbar\Application\QuickShare.exe startup [x][x]) -> FOUND
    • [RUN][SUSP PATH] HKUS\S-1-5-21-618848506-3665207736-2682772518-1000\[...]\Run : WebCake Desktop ("C:\Users\FRANKO\AppData\Roaming\WebCake\WebCakeDesktop.exe" [7]) -> FOUND
    • [RUN][SUSP PATH] HKUS\S-1-5-21-618848506-3665207736-2682772518-1000\[...]\Run : Browser Infrastructure Helper (C:\Users\FRANKO\AppData\Local\Smartbar\Application\QuickShare.exe startup [x][x]) -> FOUND
    • [HJ INPROC][SUSP PATH] HKCR\[...]\InprocServer32 : (C:\Users\FRANKO\AppData\Local\Temp\stqbmpd\sticfia\wow.dll [x]) -> FOUND

    Place a checkmark each of these items, leave the others unchecked.
    Now press the Delete button.

    ...and the same for items on the file/folder tab:

    • [V1][SUSP PATH] AVG-Secure-Search-Update_JUNE2013_TB_rmv.job : C:\Windows\TEMP\{BD08A28D-0991-48B3-9784-F4CF0579661F}.exe - --uninstall=1 [x] -> FOUND
    • [V2][SUSP PATH] AVG-Secure-Search-Update_JUNE2013_TB_rmv : C:\Windows\TEMP\{BD08A28D-0991-48B3-9784-F4CF0579661F}.exe - --uninstall=1 [x] -> FOUND
    • [V2][SUSP PATH] TidyNetwork Update : C:\Users\FRANKO\AppData\Local\TidyNetwork.com\tidy2update.exe [x] -> FOUND

    ...also let it fix the ¤¤¤ Infection : Mal.Hosts ¤¤¤¤¤¤ HOSTS File: ¤¤¤ items.

    When it is finished, there will be a log on your desktop called: RKreport[2].txt
    Attach RKreport[2].txt to your next message. (How to attach)
    Reboot the machine.

    Now Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.

    Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
    to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

    What's inside of these folders?

    • C:\Users\FRANKO\AppData\Local\CRE
    • C:\Users\FRANKO\AppData\Local\IAC

    Delete these folders if they show:

    • C:\Users\FRANKO\AppData\Roaming\WebCake
    • C:\Users\FRANKO\AppData\Local\Smartbar
    • C:\Users\FRANKO\AppData\Local\SwvUpdater
    • C:\Users\FRANKO\AppData\Local\TidyNetwork.com
    • C:\Users\FRANKO\AppData\Roaming\WebCake
    • C:\Program Files\SearchProtect
    • C:\Program Files\SearchDonkey
    • C:\Program Files\WebCake
    • C:\Program Files\Uninstaller

    Delete this file:
    • C:\Windows\Tasks\Regwork.job

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.

    Let us know of any problems you may have encountered with the above instructions and also let me know how things are running now!

    Hi Kestrel13!,

    Thanks for your help. Here is a list of items that were different than your instructions:

    HJT: The line O2 - BHO: SearchDonkey - {44ed99e2-16a6-4b89-80d6-5b21cf42e78b} - C:\Program Files\SearchDonkey\IE\common.dll was not found.

    RK: Much different than what you sent - the lines you had listed under Files/Folders were in the Registry Tab (slightly different...) and I let RK fix/delete them.

    RK: The lines listed as being in the Registry Tab did not appear.

    I deleted the folders that you said to delete.

    C:\Users\FRANKO\AppData\Local\CRE contains two files with long names that appear to be random letters with a .crx extension

    C:\Users\FRANKO\AppData\Local\IAC is empty

    Log files are attached.

    Did you have difficulty uninstalling WebCake 3.00?

    Run Ccleaner.

    You need to let RogueKiller fix this entry on the registry tab if it shows.

    • [HJ INPROC][SUSP PATH] HKCR\[...]\InprocServer32 : (C:\Users\FRANKO\AppData\Local\Temp\stqbmpd\sticfia\wow.dll [x]) -> NOT SELECTED

    Now just perform a scan only with RK and attach the resulting log please.

    Hi Kestrel13!,

    Yes,I have been unable to remove Webcake 3.0 - it still remains in the programs list and when I try to uninstall it gives me a "Initialization Failed" message.

    I deleted the file found by RK and re-scanned. New log file is attached.

    Thank you again for your help!

    Ok, finally had the opportunity to download REVO and remove WwbCake. Computer seems to be running well at this time.

    Should I do anything else?

    Thanks again for your assistance!

    Only this if all is well: If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Press and hold the Windows key http://forums.majorgeeks.com/chaslang/images/Windows_Logo_key.gif and then press the letter R on your keyboard. This opens the Run dialog box.
      • Copy and paste the below into the Run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Go back to step 4 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.
    5. If running Vista or Win 7, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    6. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click ( if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 Right Click and Run As Administrator ) on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    7. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others) and running MGclean.bat did not remove, you can delete these files now.
    8. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 6 of the READ ME
        for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
