    Hi All,
(I posted this yesterday in Malware and Chaslang suggested i post in software.)
A friend brought her comp over to see if i could get the Famous Major Geeks to give us a hand trying to get her going again. She has a Compaq Presario x1000 running XP Pro and IE6. I believe she has some major malware and virus problems. We can not get it to run at all every time i click a user name it says it is loading personal settings then goes to the screen loading windows XP and back to click on a user name. I tried to do the read and run me first but can't log on in normal mode. PLEASE ADVISE us as to where to go from here.

    Chaslangs Response:
You are potentially in the wrong forum. This sounds typical of what happens when the userinit.exe file is either deleted or the registry key used for loading it has been deleted or incorrectly edited. Does the same thing happen in safe boot mode? Can any other user accounts be logged into?

You should continue working this in the Software Forum. You will more than like need your friends Windows XP boot CD. If you don't have a boot CD, you are in trouble.

Often a procedure as documented in the below link is required:

    Today:
    Thanks Chaslang,
When i tried to boot up this am it worked but all sites came up as restricted and then the comp froze up. When i tried to boot again i recieved (B1Stack Server.exe license invalid) There is one other user and the same problem. Upon another try at booting it was back to the same booting over and over again. In safe mode the same thing happens but once in a while it will start up and then freeze. I will post in software as suggested. Thank you for the advise and your time.

I am not recieving any of the error messages listed in the link to Microsoft support. I am currently trying to locate the boot cd.
Any and all help would be great!
    Thanks in advance,
    Dan

    What errors are you receiving---?

Hopefully you find that xp cd and can just do a clean install (or repair if you need the info)

You may wish to check out something like Knoppix - to make sure it is actually is a windows problem and not something like a hardware failure--d/l it to another machine --burn to cd--reboot affected pc w/ it in the drive and you should be able to work with the
    files.

Seems to be a problem with bluetooth (B1Stack Server.exe license invalid)

Sorry, my knowledge in this area is extremely lacking, if in the end all else fails, you could try a repair install of Windows, or format the HDD and reinstall Windows itself, if you have that systems XP Pro CD available to you.

Thank you to everyone trying to help.
The only error message i recieved was the (B1Stack Server.exe license invalid)
There is no XP PRO CD apparently the comp was given to her a while back. Are there any other alternatives? Is there a way for me to retrieve docs? She is a teacher and has very important files she needs.
    Please elaborate i'm sorry i don't understand.
    Thanks,
    Dan

You can download knoppix live cd, free.
You will then need to burn it to cd, and it gives you an operating system to run from cd- no installation. This is capable of copying files, and pictures from the hard drive to , say a usb drive, or floppy.
I did a lot on data recovery, a short time ago, and I will come back shortly with various links, for free downloads.reco

you can probably salvage your data filess if
you start your computer using a Live Linux CDROM that can
read the NTFS Windows partition and also connect an external
hard disk (FAT32,or nfts, so it can be written to by Linux), then you
can hunt down your files (Documents and Settings folder
is crucial) and copy them to the FAT32 drive. (connect the
external drive on the USB port before you start the system)
Try a Linux live CD -Lynix now can copy to nfts

As insane as it sounds the comp has been booting up fine since yesterday. I found no viruses spybot found 34 threats and fixed them and all seems to be well. Thank very much you for your help. I don't know what fixed it or how but I'll not be questioning the results.confused:Dconfused:D

    Pleased to hear it.
    Spybot might have cleared it.
