    Hello all,

I just had to have a Dell tech take control of my mother's machine here to get her printer going, and the tech seemed to (very QUICKLY!) Reset (or "Restore to Default") some settings in Intenet Options>Advanced tab ~ my question is:

Should I have any "Security Concerns" now, or, are there any particular/specific concerns I should have as to whether this machine has been made, yes, more accessible to a Dell Tech Support person, but also more vulnerable to ANY SORT of internet (Cyber) type of attack, please? I have included screenshots - attached.

    Thanks in advance,
    Glenn...

    Hi Glenn

While an older blog post the info is kinda interesting for you HERE from GoToAssist on security.

Glenn cyber attacks are not as frequent to the general user as you may think, malware is, but someone hacking your PC, well you'd have to have something they wanted.

So your normal secuirty practices of keeping Windows/apps and Antivirus apps upto date is fine, can if the site lists in the Firewall block it their, or can add to the HOSTS file the line 127.0.0.1 gotoassist.com and save the file, or better still see if in add/remove is any listing for Dell Connect or gotoassit and uninstall it, or its possible its a plugin for IIRC these remote sessions are initiated via the browser, so check for plugins in Chrome, and uninstall (dont use Chrome alot)

    Hi David and thank you,

This is quite a bit for me to digest in one sitting, so I will hang-on to it for awhile, and go over everything slowly and thoroughly.

I suppose I really meant "Malware" - though it's all the same to me (and I think to many/most casual users) - "Cyber-Attack", "Malware", -Spy/Scare/Hack - semantics (again, in general) all = "same thing" ~ "PROBLEM(S)" for us here at home (or on personal laptops wherever they may be).

    Thanks you again as always,
    Glenn.

When I got tech support from Windows, Dell eons ago and remote assistance from an IT dept whom I trust, I always removed whatever remote programs they left behind. But you can always ask them to remove whatever program they used to help you with.

Personally, I never had any problems. Not to worry Glenn since their name would be involved when any intrusions would be spotted by you since you and THEY would have a record of their assistance. If you make a note of the problem you had and by whom it was solved, you can save that note in a printout or keep it in your computer.
