I am running Windows XP Service Pack 3. All of a sudden now when I do a normal Shut Down it goes through the shut-down routine (logging out; saving settings; windows is shutting down) then instead of shutting down it re-boots and starts again. When you try to shut down again it does the same thing, time after time. The only way to get it to turn off is to hold the button in on the processor. What can I do to resolve this problem? Thanks

There's a good possibility that the PC is encountering a BSOD upon shutdown. Because XP is set to automatically restart by default, you don't see the error and the PC simply reboots. Right click My Computer > Properties > Advanced; click the "Settings" button in the "Startup and Recovery" section. Uncheck the box for "Automatically restart" down in the "System failure" section. If the PC was indeed encountering an error upon shutting down, it will now stop at the error screen so you can note the error message and error number and any file names listed.....
    I hope this helps!
