    Hi everybody,

As title says, I'm preparing a thread to solve some problems and trying to go through the Read me First procedures.
(Sorry for my English, if something is not clear just tell me, thanks)

I'm blocked with Malwarebytes (one of the four problems encountered which I'm trying to solve)

Malwarebytes starts OK, but suddendy stops (no respond, Task Manager), then restarts, then stops again... without a definite pattern, sometimes goes further than other times until stops definitely. Yes, it has been recently downloaded and renamed mb.exe as your instructions.

So far, I only have the RKreport[1], the first scan of the procedure before Malwarebytes. Should I attach it?

At this point, should I do something else or continue with the rest of the Removal/Cleaning Procedure ?

Thank you for your time and support.

    Tony

    Here are the logs.

I couldn't run Malwarebytes to get their log. :(

    Suspicious symptoms:
    1) - A month ago, the PC mother board was replaced, a lightning burned up the original board. Since then, the boot is extremely slow: > 4 min.

    2) - Malwarebytes can’t be run. Downloaded and reinstalled several times, but nothing…

    3) - msconfig can’t be run (file not found):
    http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t20/Toni41_fotos/msconfig.jpg
    (Italian OS)

I searched and founded it in several folders, including the one that it is suppose to be…

    4) - After last Adobe Reader update (Version XI), I get this message when trying to open PDF’s (verified) attached to my incoming emails and sometimes (random) when opening Adobe Reader:

    http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t20/Toni41_fotos/ErrorAcroRd.jpg
    (Italian OS)

Downloaded again, cleaned and reinstalled several times, settings checked, Adobe’s site visited to look for help… I wasn’t be able to find anything that could help.

If you need additional info, just tell me.

    Thanks for your support

    Tony

    UPDATE :)

I opened the PC case and found a second hard disc connected.
This second disc used to be a backup disc not in use anymore, but was left there as spare part. Seems that when PC was at the shop to have the burned mother board changed, the technician connected it. It wasn’t an active disc, I only have unit C:\ . I disconnected it.

As a result, the first problem, the slow boot, was solved and Malwarebytes ran!

Attached is the log. It only stopped once for a couple seconds (not respond at Task Manager window)
It did the quick scan in little more than 3 minutes.

Still having msconfig lost and Adobe Reader issue.

    Thanks.

Rerun Hitman and have it delete Potential Unwanted Programs

Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    After clicking Fix exit HJT.

    Delete this folder:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Dati applicazioni\B1Toolbar

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.

Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

msconfig.exe does indeed exist according to your logs

    Thank you Krestel13,

I apologize for my lack of knowledge on the subject. :-o

    1. - Hitman does not allow me to rerun. Free license was for only one run.
    2. - When downloaded Mgtools I only got MGtools.exe on C: \ - I couldn’t find analyse.exe
3.- I was aware that msconfig was in that folder, but Run still unable to find it. Is it because it is also in two other folders?
    C: \ WINDOWS \ ServicePackFiles \ i386 \ msconfig.exe
    C: \ WINDOWS \ system32 \ dllcache \ msconfig.exe
    :(

    Attached is the SystemLook's Log

    Waiting for instuctions.
    Thanks
    Tony

    P.S.
I reinstalled Adobe Reader 9 (previous to XI) and it's working fine.

Please download Combofix to your desktop. Please refer to these instructions prior to running.

Now we need to use ComboFix by sUBs to replace a file.

    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    • If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box. Ensure you scroll down to select ALL the lines:
    Code:
    KILLALL::

    Fcopy::
    C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386\msconfig.exe | C:\WINDOWS\PCHealth\HelpCtr\Binaries\msconfig.exe

    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe

      http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/CFScriptB-4.gif

    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below

    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

If after running Combofix you discover none of your programs will open up, and you recieve the following error: "Illegal operation attempted on a registry key that has been marked for deletion". Then the answer is to REBOOT the machine, and all will be corrected.

Reboot the machine, is msconfig ok now?

    Done.

Yes, msconfig now can be found ;)

I read the first part of the ComboFix log and noticed tha AVG Internet Security 2011 & AVG Fitrewall are both enabled (I also had a warning windows about this running ComboFix).
I didn't even know that they were present on my PC, I actually use AVAST. Probably are remains of when I had it years ago? The fact is that I couldn't find them (Search) to delete/uninstall... I guess that having more than one Firewall installed is not a good practice... Is there any way to get rid of them?

    Attached is the ComboFix log

    Thanks

    Thank you Krestel. :)

    - Boot load time is OK
    - Malwarebytes runs
    - msconfig runs
    - Adobe Reader V. 9 runs (V. XI don't... but it doesn't bother me as long as I can work with PDF's) ;)

    You all are awesome.

Glad it's all running nicely ;)

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Press and hold the Windows key http://forums.majorgeeks.com/chaslang/images/Windows_Logo_key.gif and then press the letter R on your keyboard. This opens the Run dialog box.
      • Copy and paste the below into the Run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Go back to step 4 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.
    5. If running Vista or Win 7, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    6. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click ( if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 Right Click and Run As Administrator ) on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    7. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others) and running MGclean.bat did not remove, you can delete these files now.
    8. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 6 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

    Thank you Kestrel13,

Just one more thing, I'm not sure if this is related to the previous work or may be I did something wrong: mi Internet connection speed has gone down. :(
For example, I could see a YouTube video without interruptions (no buffering stops), now it is happening with all videos, no matter the quality of them...
I noticed it also downloading software during the Read Me First last phase.
My ADSL is supposed to be 7 Mb (Italy)

Is there something to check about the Internet Options settings to be sure they are OK?
I opened the Advanced tab and Connections tab in the Control Panel_Internet_Options, but I don't know if settings are OK or not
    (Italian OS)

    Thanks for your time

    Tony

This is something you can ask about in another area of the forum, such as software. :)
