I have a Linksys BEFSW11S4 ver. 4 router directly connected to my desktop and I connect with my laptop wirelessly. My problem is that the browsing speeds on my desktop are very slow. Webpages will take 15-30 seconds to load, while the exact same site will load instantly on my laptop as normal. Oddly though, when I run a bandwidth speed test I will get the same good results with the desktop as I will with the laptop.

However, certain speed tests will time out and not even start. This timing out seems apparent on the internet, maybe... because sometimes the page won't do anything for 15-20 seconds, and then pretty quickly load up all of a sudden. Again, this is all completely on my desktop only, the wirelessly connected laptop is completely normal. Also, I don't know if it means anything, but when I cycle my DSL modem and restart, sometimes the internet will go normal speed for about a minute... then back down to slow. I'm not sure if this is a malware issue, but you can hopefully help me in some way!

I have run everything in the Read and Run first sticky, and I have the logs attached here and in the next post. Thank you for any help!! This is very frustrating.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Your problems may not be due to malware. It is possible that it is just due to what you are running especially anything that may be running in the background. I see several P2P type programs ( LimeWire & Emule) also lots of games. Do these games have anything running? Also try disabling all browser addons under Tools, Manage Addons to see if there is any effect.

What is the below service and is it needed?
    O23 - Service: DynDNS Updater - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\DynDNS Updater\DynUpSvc.exe

I do see a few other suspicious items in the logs that I will ask about before just deleting them. The below are all suspicious! Do you know what they are for?

    Code:
    2006-05-03 09:06 163,328 --sh--r C:\WINDOWS\system32\flvDX.dll
    2007-02-21 10:47 31,232 --sh--r C:\WINDOWS\system32\msfDX.dll
    2007-12-17 12:43 27,648 --sh--w C:\WINDOWS\system32\Smab0.dll

    O20 - Winlogon Notify: tools32 - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\tools32.dll

    Now do the below!

    Uninstall the below software:
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_11
Viewpoint Manager (Remove Only) <-- should have been uninstalled in step 1 of the READ ME
Viewpoint Media Player <-- should have been uninstalled in step 1 of the READ ME

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now we need to use ComboFix to remove a bunch of malware files.
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box into it:
    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below
    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixme.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

    Now run Ccleaner!

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • C:\ComboFix.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!
