WARNING: The following advice and fixes are created specifically to this member's problem and should be used for the issue(s) with this machine only.

Hello, mr.revrac - please do not install any other software while we are still working with you unless instructed. Once we have given you the all clean and final instructions you will be free to install what you want.

I strongly recommend that you clean up this account's Desktop immediately leaving only links.[ C:\Documents and Settings\Carver\Desktop ] Do not store downloads, exe files, iso files....etc on your Desktop. First it is not a safe place to keep them (i.e., you may loose them due to malware, and a cluttered Desktop is an easy hiding place for malware), and last but not least - it can have an effect on your PCs performance.

You need to read this! Warning about Porn, Keygens, Cracks, and other Illegal Software
    Software Collection\cd-dvd\Alcohol 120%\Alcohol 120 v1.9.5 with crack

Question: Why does this show in your logs?
    Step 1:
    * Consider updating these browsers-
Mozilla Firefox (3.5.9) to Mozilla Firefox 3 3.6.3 Final
    SeaMonkey (1.1.13) to SeaMonkey 2.0.4

    Step 2:
Please look in Add/Remove Programs for the following and uninstall if found. If you get any errors just make a note and continue on.
    Step 3:
Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

    Step 4:
Now we need to use ComboFix.
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware, firewall...etc) programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix. *Remember to re-start them before coming back online.
    • If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below code box into it (make sure you scroll all the way down in the code box to get all lines selected ):
    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
If it asks you to overide the previous file with the same name, click YES.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
      http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/CFScriptB-4.gif
    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below

    Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

    Step 5:
Open CCleaner - select "Cleaner" > "Run Cleaner" <---use this function ONLY!

    Step 6:
Now install the latest Sun Java Runtime Environment

    Step 7:
Then run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

Please attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file to your next reply.

    * Make sure you tell me if you had any problems running this procedure; and answer this - "What malware problems are you still experiencing?"

I uninstalled sea monkey (I don’t need it)
    Updated Firefox
    Removed Java(TM) 6 Update 17

I think my logs show something about this stuff because….
    AVIRA May 10 2010 "Avira"
    AVIRA(2) May 9 2010 "Avira(2)"
Because I did a system restore the night before I figured out I needed to come to this web site.
Antivir acts odd when you do a system restore (It looked like it was off but I think it was still on)
I had to uninstall it and reinstall it to make it work the right way again. (I had no control over it and I think it was still on and it needed to be off to run the scans)

My F drive has a folder called RECYCLER on it.. I don’t know what that folder is .. I did not make it.

The problem I was having before I started the read and run me was…. one of these fake antivirus scanners would pop up. It looked like it was an official windows product and would be called something like windows antivirus 2010 (I have done a few system restores over the past few months to make it go away but it would come back with a different name after a month or so)

The only problems I have had over the last few days is Antivir has caught a few things attempting to attack my computer.
    Any more steps?

I just had another spyware thing pop up

I had to do a system restore just to get this computer to do anything
What pops up is called antispy ware soft

I get a shield in the bottom right corner that looks a lot like a windows shield
I get a windows security alert
Every time I try to do something I get some sort of security warning (fake?) that says
Application cannot be executed the file is infected ..bla bla bla
and it just keeps trying to make me click on it and nothing on my computer will work

Antivir tries to stop it but fails.
I also have a windows update shield icon up (I think its real)

i think the system restore will help for a few days again but i know it will be back..

    next steps?

Please be patient and make no further system changes while I look over your last logs. * Be advised that going back too far in time with System Restore can effectively bring back any problems and malware that were already removed.

NOTING that I see that you have not cleaned up your desktop nor removed "Alcohol 120 v1.9.5 with crack".

*This is an area that you should be looking to correct soon.
Do NOT delay in performing the steps given below and replying with logs!

Please download and run the below tool named Rkill (courtesy of BleepingComputer.com) which may help allow other programs to run.

There are 4 different versions. If one of them won't run then download and try to run the other one.

Vista and Win7 users need to right click and choose Run as Administrator

You only need to get one of them to run, not all of them. You may get warnings from your antivirus about this tool, ignore them or shutdown your antivirus.
    1. Rkill.exe
    2. Rkill.com
    3. Rkill.scr
    4. Rkill.pif
Once you've gotten one of them to run then try to immediately run the following.

Now download and Run exeHelper from Raktor
    • Please download exeHelper to your desktop.
    • Double-click on exeHelper.com to run the fix.
    • A black window should pop up, press any key to close once the fix is completed.
    • A log file named log.txt will be created in the directory where you ran exeHelper.com
    • Attach the log.txt file to your next message.
Note: If the window shows a message that says "Error deleting file", please re-run the program before posting a log - and post the two logs together (they will both be in the one file).

Now run this: Using Malwarebytes Anti-Malware

Now download The Avenger by Swandog469, and save it to your Desktop.
    • Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    • Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    • Do not change any check box options!!
    • Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it into the "Input script here:" part of the window.
    • Now click the Execute button.
    • Click Yes to the prompt to confirm you want to execute.
    • Click Yes to the "Reboot now?" question that will appear when Avenger finishes running.
    • Your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    • A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt and it will popup for you to view when you login after reboot.

Now open CCleaner - select "Cleaner" > "Run Cleaner" <---use this function ONLY!

Then run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

Please attach the below logs to your next reply:
    • exeHelper log
    • Malwarebytes Anti-Malware log
    • MGlogs.zip - normally it is C:\MGlogs.zip - only attach this log from MGtools.exe DO NOT attach any logs seen in the MGtools folder.

    Hello, mr.revrac

Question: Why did you uninstall Java(TM) 6 Update 20?

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now open CCleaner - select "Cleaner" > "Run Cleaner" <---use this function ONLY!

Then - please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune. This program does not require an installation - the executable actually runs the program.

NOTE: ATF Cleaner will remove all files from the items that are checked so if you have some cookies you'd like to save. Please move them to a different directory first.
    • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
      • Under Main choose: Select All
      • Click the Empty Selected button.

    If you use Firefox browser
    • Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
    • Click the Empty Selected button.
      • NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

    If you use Opera browser
    • Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
      • Click the Empty Selected button.
    • NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

Click Exit on the Main ATF Cleaner menu to close the program.

    * Make sure you tell me if you had any problems running this procedure; and answer this - "What malware problems are you still experiencing?"

It is not showing in your latest "newfiles.txt" uninstall program listing.

    * If running a scan with Avira AntiVir Personal after it blocked the attack (you did, right?) and it didn't find anything - we're ready to perform the final cleanup steps:

    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Go back to step 6 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

Thank you for all your help

I finished off the last steps and everything seems to be working fine.

The only problem I am having is that Firefox will not open now. Is there anything I should do to fix this other then reinstalling it?

    once more thank you :)

    :)

    You're welcome.

That may be the preferred fix, as I noticed that your last logs showed FireFox v. 3.5.9, when the May 10th logs showed version 3.6.3. This might possibly have been caused by the system restore.

Try Backup your FireFox Bookmarks; then do the uninstall >run CCleaner > re-boot > re-install of FireFox and import your saved bookmarks back. If that doesn't solve the problem, I would refer you to the Software Forum for this non-malware related issue.
