    Here is the description of my computer and what has been going on:

    HP Compaq nx9420
    Centrino Duo Processor T5600 @ 1.83 GHz
    1.83 Ghz, 512 MB of RAM

    Windows XP Professional Version 2002 SP3

    The computer has been running fine some days, and terribly slow others. For about two weeks now, about every other website I would go to, no matter what site, a new tab would automatically open to some random site with different links. For instance, if I would go to a legitimate website about cars, such as CamaroZ28.com, some random site would come up related to cars.

    At some point, the computer just went crazy on me. My background changed itself from a picture of my girlfriend and I to a bright green background that said "You computer is infected!!" with text below it saying Spyware must be cleaned etc. Some random icon came up in the Taskbar that was a red balloon with a white X in it that resembled the Windows Security Center "Firewall OFF" icon, but it clearly was not. However it basically did nothing other than show up. I could not close it.

    So I ran the Windows XP cleaning procedure in the READ/RUN me tutorial and here is how it went (logs are attached).

    I updated JAVA, and after uninstalling the old version, I had to reboot as instructed. Upon reboot I got this message at startup:

    %SystemRoot%\system32\cmd.exe

    Windows cannot find '%SystemRoot%\system32\cmd.exe' Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the start button, and then click search.

    I closed this out, and installed the latest JAVA update.

    When I ran SuperAntiSpyware, it did fine. It found one Rogue malware and I rebooted.

    Now when I tried to run MalwareBytes it installed successfully and began to do the Quick Scan, however during the scan something shut it down, and prevented it from working. I did rename it to MB.EXE for it's installation (just to be on the safe side). Internet Explorer started going crazy and came up out of nowhere with about 8 tabs open in one browser linking to random sites that did not look at all like websites. Some were different languages etc. I had to close all these out and reboot to do anything. I use the latest version of Firefox as my browser and NEVER use Internet Explorer except for Windows Update. During this, the same "You're Computer is infected" background came up again and so did the taskbar icon.

    So after this reboot another security warning popped up after logging in to windows :

    Security Warning!
    Worm.Win32.Netsky detected on your machine! Followed by a large paragraph of text. I hit PrntScrn to hopefully get a screen shot. I will attach it as well if you would like me too, although I am not sure how to access Screen Shots this way, so I will need to be instructed how to do so, if it worked.

    I closed this out and some RunDLL error popups came up:

    C:\DOCUME~1\boolee\ntload.dll
    Invalid access to memory location
    c:\windows\system32\notepad.dll
    Invalid access to memory location
    c:\windows\system32\bebowefo.dll
    The specified module could not be found

    I closed these out and ran ComboFix

    After ComboFix reboot I got these RunDLL errors:

    tumazuba.dll (I forgot to write down the full exension, sorry)
    The specified module could not be found
    c:\windows\system32\bebowefo.dll
    The specified module could not be found
    c:\windows\system32\notepad.dll
    Invalid access to memory location

    Ran RootRepeal and MGTools with no problems.

    Note: NO MB.exe logs due to failure

    Thanks for your help.

    Your RootRepeal log is showing numerous system files in the E: drive. What are you using this for?

    Let's start with this:
    Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

    Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

    * Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
    If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    * Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    * If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    * Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below code box into it (make sure you scroll all the way down in the code box to get all lines selected ):
    Code:
    KILLALL::

    Driver::
    oauabswfw
    oagxsr
    mrqosnhlpmvk

    File::
    C:\uwlwfa.exe
    C:\haypsixd.exe
    C:\waxfhosk.exe
    c:\windows\system32\msaouahn.dll
    c:\windows\system32\chg.exe
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\sysReserve.ini.
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\genetoda.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\nakaketi
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\sagopise.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\vetaweyo.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\oagxsr.sys

    Registry::
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
    "tqammy"=-

    * Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    * At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    * You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    If it asks you to overide the prvevious file with the same name, click YES.
    * Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/CFScriptB-4.gif
    * Follow the prompts.
    * When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    * I will ask for this log below

    Note:

    Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:

    * C:\ComboFix.txt
    * C:\MGlogs.zip

    Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    Your logs are clean.

    If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no real-time protection. They are useful as backup scanners.They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    5. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    6. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    7. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    8. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures in step 3 the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore ato create a new clean Restore Point.
    9. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

    I've been having a problem still when it comes to GMAIL.

    google.com then clicking "gmail" tab gives me a 404 error

    gmail.com gives me 404 error

    When I log in to my college email which is gmail based it also does the same thing.

    If this is happening with any browser, then I suggest that you post in the software forum. :major

    So you don't think it was something the malware messed with? It didn't start doing it until it was redirecting google all the time...

    It is possible, but if it is only an issue with gmail and no other IE or Firefox issues, then it needs to be addressed in software.

    Are you using a proxy server, by chance?

    Nope not that I know of. Google and yahoo both get redirected when I click on a link result after searching for something. Aol does not. Gmail does not work at all.

    Have you tried removing both the google and yahoo toolbars?
