ready to blow

strictly a weekend (i have fridays off) user so never had much time to get up to speed on anything. use the internet to search for information, purchase items, pursue my main hobbies, get my e-mail and send photos to family members etc.. have a 2ghz machine with 756 memory, cable modem and use MSN explorer, because it was easier than changing my e-mail address. i don't know anything about software, very little about the use of XP other than what i need for surfing, using word, excel, the basic stuff to function in society. know some geeks, but not comfortable with begging them to come straighten me out. have paid a couple of outfits to come over and cure some problems, but find the short time they spend here and the little time i have to spend, enough for me to really grasp anything of substance. tried to sign up for a couple of community college courses once and being there were only two people who paid and showed up, they cancelled. if i have questions about internet issues which forum topic is going to be of the most benefit to me?? i can't download JAVA. can't use many websites because of red x's in boxes and can't get a straight answer from MSN or Adobe or anyone else for that matter on how to correct it. have disabled settings in internet options multiple times to no avail and have continually been referred to online technical support whenever i've gotten anyone on the phone. once there, it's try this and try that and frankly i'm too dumb and confused to go on. have had spam problems in the past and had luck with downloads from your list that cured that problem, but with all the required firewalls, anti-virus, anti-spam etc. software it seems i can't function. it's like being in prison on the internet. sure would appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction. thanks in advance and hope i didn't violate any rules posting in this topic, but didn't know where else to go.

 

just spent a whole day at the tech guy site downloading edwino and the new version of hijack this and after all day of trying to straighten this mess out everything locked up and had to do a system restore. i wonder how many people a year shoot their PC. i'm back to square one and wasted a whole saturday. every time i attempt to clean this thing up and/or even do a backup it turns to crap. how i've managed to go the last three years without the blue screen of death is totally amazing to me. how did i ever survive without this and a cell phone is beyond me. i know i was happier then and seemed to have a whole lot more time.

Actually, we're not likely to help you at another forum. The idea of this support problem is that our members support each other - not another forum's users. Equally the owners would obviously prefer if you downloaded stuff from majorgeeks.com, rather than another download site. It's simply bad manners to say you've been somewhere else. It's like walking into a pub/bar with a pint of beer you bought at the shop over the road!
