We have several email accounts round here.

Some for real, some for one time use like sign-in to web sites some for just in case needed. One almost real name like firstletterlastname@email.com like a business account have only had two emails in over a year. Only 2! The welcome message as normal and 1 that was expected from the intended sender. No spam and never nothing else.

Have one that was a nickname account - use @ two big box stores/ company's. One a children's cereal to try to get 3rd graders readers book offers. Another at a big box store with a zillion books for a scrable cheat sheet book for an incarcerated family member as the only way it could be sent.

This one used at these 2 respected companies gets thousands of junk and never anything of use. This kind of stuff was expected but not exprcted from these two sources. So no harm done. Lat time I clean the junk folder was 1781 emails after 10 days. Up to about 100 now in less than 2 days.

What's the most junk anyone has recieved and what kind of least likely sources sold your address?

Junk and Spam hit the yahoo account I use for friends and family daily, everything from Facebook invites from people I do not know or want to know to invites from undesirables sites I have never visited nor would ever visit. Thankfully it all goes directly to Spam and I never open it. Oddly that is not the email account I use for online signups and the email I use for that receives very little Spam. I would of thought it would be the other way around.
I think one of the reasons for the Spam is because over the years friends and family have forwarded email to everyone they know without cleaning it up and removing other peoples email addresses off it first. As for selling email addresses it could be anyone.

I figure as soon as you use an email account, you start getting junk mail, it doesn't matter what it's for. I've never tried to figure out who sells out your account. I think the amount varies by what service you use.

Yahoo is the absolute worst. I used to use that for my personal account because it came with my Verizon Fios. After a year, I totally stopped using it. I didn't use it online and still got so many spam crap emails a day it was silly. I think they need to pay to have their spam filters revamped. The biggest issue is it went into my inbox and not my spam folder.

On the other hand, I use my very first original AOL email address for my online stuff. I never get spam. The only thing I get are solicitations from places I've done business with. My AOL is really really good...even if people do chuckle over it when I give it at a store.

My personal account is gmail. Not much spam comes through, but much more than my AOL. It all goes into my spam folder though.

    Spot on!
A friend and one of my sisters always forwarded funny emails that were sent to them and 10 other people.
And everytime I got 10 email addresses of people I don't know. To me it meant nothing, but to the next person... who knows.

The abused account has 350 since last time so maybe a slower week. I did notice twice as many sent for Friday. Maybe spammers trying for an end of the week payday. Ha! The newer account has nil still. One mans junk another man's treasure?' I don't think so' Tim.

One funny one I had way back when was a Hotmail - my first one- I answered a survey for a free copy of XP. Halfway thru I realized it was a trick so I x'd out and went somewhere else. Later the next day I get 1800 something junk, I called MS told them what happened and to delete the account and I made a new one. The call center probably got a good laugh on that one.

Kind of used to get 100s per day on a junk forum signup account that weirdly I use for Facebook these days, so knew lesser known forums and sites would sell that email address on.

Like many of use I have multiple email addresses and 5 are my actual name, my gmail ones used to get alot of spam but as the email companies like Google and Microsoft get better at weeding it out then its becoming less of a pain to setup filters or blocked accounts, as for the less likely source then I started getting junk into my work email and its not one I give out, unless you are related to my work, so the source of the junk as its all drugs and medical must have been a research website I needed to join as part of the collaborative group I'm part of when we had 3 papers published and hosted or indexed on this research site.

Not impressed and have most of the general gist of junk emails blocked or filtered into a separate folder for review and deletion, called it Swamp for some reason!
