I having a issue with Realteck audio after installing Sevice Pack 2, however,
it may also be a problem with Vista, with reinstalling Realteck drivers. With either issue it seems that the microsoft drivers are being loaded . I have been able to restore my system to a working condition and at this time
when i check Device Manager , the drivers are Realteck.

I tried install the lasted drivers for Realteck, before I installed the sevice pack and the audio stop working.. with microsoft drivers.

    Any suggestions.... papabob

    Pleas do the following:

    1. Upgrade to the latest service pack, in your case SP2 and uninstall the realtek audio drivers

    2. Right-click on "Computer" and choose "manage"

    3. Authenticate if necessary

    4. On the left of the window, click on "Device manager"

    5. In the centre of the window, expand "Sound, video and Game Controllers" (or similar, I can't remember the exact Vista name)

    6. In there should be the audio device. Right-click on it and choose "uninstall"

    7. Restart and install the realtek drivers

Where are these Realtek drivers coming from?
If Windows update is downloading them, that might be the problem.
What brand and model of computer are you using? It is always safer to look at the drivers offered by the computer manufacturer than to take what MS thinks might be correct.
Once I know the brand and model, I can see the hardware/sound chip and we can figure out the correct sound driver.

Hello I have the same issue with Realtec drivers and Vista. After the audio stop working the first time, I had to restore the system back to the orginal software. However, this time I started using system restore and created a restore point before
running any updates. The audio worked until I installed vista service pack 2 then audio stop working. It would look like this was the cause of the problem.

So I then attempted to update the realtec drivers before installing service pack 2 , the audio stop working and I had to restore the system to get them working again.

Where is the problem. Something with the way the os reinstalls the drivers?

This leads to the real question, Is there a way to store a restore point on a cd or other location. I want to insure I can get back to a working condition while I try differant solutions to this issue
